Bay Leadership Academy

Bay Leadership Academy (formerly Heysham High School/Balmoral Secondary) is a co-educational secondary school and former sixth form in Heysham (near Morecambe) in the English county of Lancashire. The school serves pupils mainly from the Heysham, Morecambe and Lancaster areas. Previously a community school administered by Lancashire County Council, in June 2018 Heysham High School converted to academy status and was renamed Bay Leadership Academy. The school is now sponsored by Star Academies.

1. Curriculum

Virtually all maintained schools and academies follow the National Curriculum, and are inspected by Ofsted on how well they succeed in delivering a 'broad and balanced curriculum'. Schools endeavour to get all students to achieve the English Baccalaureate(EBACC) qualification- this must include core subjects a modern or ancient foreign language, and either History or Geography. The school operates a two-year, Key Stage 3 where all the core National Curriculum subjects are taught allowing more time to prepare for exams.. Year 7 and Year 8 study core subjects: English, Mathematics, Science. The following foundation subjects are offered: Art & Design, Computing, Design & Technology, Drama, Ethics & Life Skills PSHE & RE, French, German, Geography and History, Music and PE. For Key Stage 4 Bay Leadership Academy offers GCSEs, BTECs and City and Guilds courses as programmes of study for pupils.

Alhambra Theatre, Morecambe

The Alhambra is a theatre situated on the West End promenade in the English seaside resort of Morecambe, Lancashire. Opened in 1901 as the Alhambra Palace, it took its name, though not its style, from the famous Moorish original in Granada, Spain. The building was in continuous use, with a range of entertainment and social uses, until 1970 when a fire gutted the interior. Following extensive refurbishment the theatre reopened in 1973 as The Inn on the Bay before renaming itself The Carleton Club, becoming a major events venue and one of the great Northern soul dance clubs. After closing in 2016, it reopened it the same year as a multi-purpose venue with capacity up to 1,100. The theatre was the location where Laurence Olivier shot his iconic 1960 film version of John Osborne’s The Entertainer.

Mazuma Mobile Stadium

The Mazuma Mobile Stadium (formerly known as the Globe Arena for sponsorship reasons) is a football stadium in Morecambe, Lancashire, England, which is the home of Morecambe F.C. The stadium opened in 2010, replacing the old Morecambe F.C. stadium, Christie Park, which was Morecambe's home from 1921 to 2010. The stadium holds up to 6,476 supporters, with 2,173 seats available in the Main Stand, which runs the length of one side of the pitch. Opposite the Main Stand is an uncovered terrace with a capacity of 606, giving a similar feel to the ground as that at Christie Park. At either ends of the pitch are the home and away stands, with the home end holding a maximum of 2,234 supporters and the away end having a capacity of 1,389. In the north east corner of the stadium is the Tyson Fury Foundation, which is split between two floors. The building also houses a gym, which was purchased by Tyson Fury in August 2020.
