Woodford, Greater Manchester

Woodford is a village in the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport, Greater Manchester, England. It lies in the historic county of Cheshire, 5.2 miles (8.4 km) south of Stockport, 5.7 miles (9.2 km) north-west of Macclesfield and 10.7 miles (17.2 km) south-east of Manchester. Woodford was a hamlet in the parish of Prestbury throughout the Middle Ages. It was incorporated into the Urban District of Hazel Grove and Bramhall in 1939 and then the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport in 1974. Woodford Aerodrome was opened in 1924 by Avro and produced aircraft such as the Avro Lancaster in World War II; it closed in 2011 and was demolished in 2015. A new housing development has been built on the site. Its historic properties include New Hall, a 17th-century cottage and Grade II* listed building.

Woodford Aerodrome

Woodford Aerodrome (ICAO: EGCD) is a former airfield and aircraft factory at Woodford, Greater Manchester, England, 6 nautical miles (11 km; 6.9 mi) north of Macclesfield. It was opened by the Avro company after the First World War and became an important production centre for military aircraft in the Second World War. Notable planes made at the factory include the Avro Anson, Avro Lancaster, Avro Shackleton and Avro Vulcan. After almost 80 years of aircraft manufacture at the site, Woodford was closed and sold off by BAE Systems in 2011.

Macclesfield Rural District

Macclesfield Rural District was a rural district of Cheshire, England from 1894 to 1974. Macclesfield as a Municipal Borough and Bollington as an urban district formed an enclave which was surrounded by Macclesfield RD. The district was formed in 1894 based on Macclesfield rural sanitary district by the Local Government Act 1894. It was abolished under the Local Government Act 1972 in 1974 and became part of the new Macclesfield borough, which was itself abolished in 2009.

Poynton railway station serves the town of Poynton in Cheshire, England. The station is on Cheshire East Council's local list of heritage buildings. It was built in 1887. The station is staffed between the hours of 06:30 and 13:00 Monday to Friday and 07:30 and 14:00 on Saturdays. It is unstaffed on Sundays.
