Danes Graves - Izeria

Danes Graves is an archaeological site in the East Riding of Yorkshire. It forms part of the Arras Culture of inhumation and chariot burial prevalent in the region during the British Iron Age. It is a prehistoric cemetery site situated in Danesdale – a dry river valley with gravel and chalk deposits. The site is north of Driffield near the village of Kilham.

RAF Cottam

Royal Air Force Cottam or more simply RAF Cottam is a former Royal Air Force satellite station near Cottam in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England and 3.9 miles (6.3 km) north west of Driffield, East Riding of Yorkshire. The airfield was used only occasionally for flying, mostly being utilised as a bomb storage site.

Cottam is a hamlet and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The hamlet is west of the B1249 Skipsea to Staxton road, and in the Yorkshire Wolds. It is 16 miles (30 km) north from the county town of Beverley, and approximately 4 miles (6 km) east from the village of Sledmere. The civil parish is formed by the hamlet of Cottam, and Cowlam 2.5 miles (4 km) to its north-west. According to the 2011 UK census, Cottam parish had a population of 108, an increase on the 2001 UK census figure of 74, which was the lowest population figure of any East Riding of Yorkshire civil parish in 2001.

The Borough of East Yorkshire was one of nine local government districts of the county of Humberside, England from 1 April 1974 to 1 April 1996. The district was created as North Wolds, but was renamed by resolution of the council on 1 February 1981 (the Borough of Beverley was renamed to include 'East Yorkshire' in its name the same year, leading to the borough's councillors accusing North Wolds councillors of "usurping" the name). North Wolds council had made an earlier attempt in 1973, a year before it formally came into existence, to be named "Bridlington and Yorkshire Wolds", however this was struck down by the Department of the Environment. The district was formed under the Local Government Act 1972 by the amalgamation of a number of areas formerly in the administrative county of Yorkshire, East Riding: namely the municipal borough of Bridlington, Driffield urban district, Driffield Rural District, Pocklington Rural District and most of Bridlington Rural District. The district was abolished in 1996, and merged into the new East Riding of Yorkshire local government district, which covers a much larger area.

Driffield Rural District

Driffield was a rural district in the East Riding of Yorkshire in England from 1894 to 1974. It surrounded the municipal borough of Driffield. The district was created by the Local Government Act 1894. It picked up part of the Great Driffield Urban District when that was abolished in 1935 by a County Review Order made under the Local Government Act 1929. At the same time parts of the district were transferred to Driffield Urban District and Norton Rural District while gaining parts of Pocklington Rural District. It was abolished in 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972. The district was transferred to the new district of North Wolds in Humberside.
