Hardwick Hall, County Durham

Hardwick Hall in Sedgefield, County Durham is a building of historical significance and is a Grade II listed building on the English Heritage Register. A major part of it was built in the late 1700s but it is possible that some of it dates from about 1634. It was the residence for many notable people for two centuries. It is now a hotel which provides accommodation and restaurant services and caters for special events particularly weddings.

Sedgefield District was, from 1974 to 2009, a local government district and (from 1996), borough in County Durham, in North East England. It had a population of about 87,000 (2001 UK census). It was named after Sedgefield, but its largest town was Newton Aycliffe. Other places included Shildon, Ferryhill and Spennymoor. The borough was formed (as Sedgefield District), in 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, by the merger of Sedgefield Rural District, Spennymoor and Shildon urban districts and part of Darlington Rural District. The borough was abolished as part of the 2009 structural changes to local government in England. From 1983 to 2007, most of the district was represented in parliament by Tony Blair, who became Leader of the Labour Party in 1994, and Prime Minister in 1997.

NETPark

NETPark, or the North East Technology Park, is a British science park in Sedgefield, Durham. It is owned by Durham County Council and run by Business Durham, the business support service of the council, with strategic partners Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) and Durham University. NETPark hosts three national catapult centres: CPI was a founding partner of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult in 2011 and are joined by the North East Centre of Excellence for Satellite Applications and the Space Enterprise Lab NETPark, part of the Satellite Applications Catapult, and the Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult North East. CPI also manages three national innovation centres at NETPark: the National Formulation Centre, the National Printable Electronics Centre and the National Healthcare Photonics Centre. It is also home to Orbit, Durham University's enterprise zone, and the university's Centre for Advanced Instrumentation. NETPark was opened in 2004 by the local Member of Parliament for Sedgefield and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Tony Blair.
