Tennants - Izeria

Tennants is an auction house based at Leyburn in North Yorkshire, England. It claims to be the largest family-owned fine art auctioneers in the United Kingdom. The firm holds some 80 auctions a year and attracts buyers and sellers from around the world. It has twenty-seven specialist departments. Tennants premises include the Garden Rooms, a multi-purpose events and concert venue with a capacity for 640 people.

The firm originated in Middleham, near Leyburn, where Edmund Tennant (born 1876) was a stonemason, grocer and agricultural merchant. His son Edmund expanded the business into auctioneering. The younger Edmund's sons John and Rodney also became auctioneers, and in 1971 John established himself at Leyburn. By 1988 the business focussed solely on fine art and antiques. In 1993 the current 40,000 square feet (3,700 m2) salerooms were opened at Leyburn, and the Garden Rooms were added in 2014.

Leyburn railway station

Leyburn railway station is on the Wensleydale Railway, a seasonal, heritage service and serves the town of Leyburn in North Yorkshire, England. During the summer months it is served by at least three trains per day; at other times of the year the service is mainly at weekends and public holidays. The Leyburn branch of the Wensleydale Railway Association (which incorporates the Friends of Leyburn Station-FOLS) meets monthly at the station. The station postal address is Leyburn Station, Harmby Road, Leyburn, North Yorkshire, DL8 5ET.

St Matthew's Church, Leyburn

The church of St Matthew Leyburn (also known as The Parish Church of St Matthew, Leyburn) is the parish church for Leyburn in North Yorkshire, England. It is just to the south-east of Leyburn town centre and on the northern side of the A684 road. The parish is relatively new (being raised in 1956) and the church itself was built in 1868 after many years of parishioners having to travel to nearby Wensley (1-mile (1.6 km) to the west) to worship. In 2017, permission was granted to allow the parish to remove the pews and enhance car parking around the site, despite some objections to the overall plan. The church celebrated its 150-year anniversary in 2018.

Leyburn

Leyburn is a market town and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England, sitting above the northern bank of the River Ure in Wensleydale. Historically in the North Riding of Yorkshire, the name was derived from 'Ley' or 'Le' (clearing), and 'burn' (stream), meaning clearing by the stream. Leyburn had a population of 1,844 at the 2001 census increasing to 2,183 at the 2011 Census. The estimated population in 2015 was 2,190.

Harmby is a village and civil parish in Lower Wensleydale, one mile south-east of Leyburn, in North Yorkshire, England. It is located roughly three miles east of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Harmby has close links with Spennithorne, a village half a mile to the south-east. The two villages have a joint sports association. The name Harmby derives from the Old Norse Hjarnibȳ meaning 'Hjarni's village'. Harmby Waterfall, over which Harmby Beck flows, is located in a wooded gorge on the east side of the village. It can be accessed via two footpaths from the main road, near the top of Harmby Bank, across from the Pheasant Inn. The beck is crossed by a footbridge just downstream of the falls. Harmby Beck meets Spennithorne Beck before flowing into the River Ure. Edward Baines, in his 1823 directory, lists the village as Harnby and gives the population as 194. In 2011, the population of Harmby was 371. This small community has few businesses; the largest are the Pheasant Inn and the Lower Wensleydale Caravan and Motorhome Club Site (caravan park). Harmby has a village hall, behind which are the grounds used by the sports association. The A684, between Kendal and Ellerbeck, runs past the village. Harmby is served by one public bus route, the 155, operated by Hodgsons Coaches. There is another bus service that operates for schoolchildren attending Spennithorne School or Wensleydale School. The village was historically in the North Riding of Yorkshire, and from 1974 was part of the Richmondshire district in the newly-established county of North Yorkshire. Until 2023 it was governed by North Yorkshire County Council and Richmondshire District Council; in 2023, North Yorkshire Council restructured into a unitary authority, abolishing the district councils. Harmby lies in the constituency of Richmond and Northallerton. The member of parliament is Rishi Sunak.
