Blessed Carlo Acutis Catholic and Church of England Academy

Blessed Carlo Acutis Catholic and Church of England Academy, formerly St Chad's Catholic and Church of England Academy, is a coeducational secondary school in Runcorn, Cheshire, England. St Chad's was founded as a Roman Catholic voluntary aided school in 1976. After Phase II of a new building programme costing £7.4 million began in the summer of 2008, the school reopened in 2009 as a joint-faith Roman Catholic and Church of England voluntary aided school administered by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Shrewsbury and the Church of England Diocese of Chester. An extension to the schools science block was constructed in 2013. Some areas of the school are available to hire for community sports facilities. In March 2022 St Chad's Catholic and Church of England High School converted to academy status and was renamed St Chad's Catholic and Church of England Academy. The school is now sponsored by the St Joseph Catholic Multi Academy Trust, but continues to be under the jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Shrewsbury and the Church of England Diocese of Chester. In October 2023, the school was renamed Blessed Carlo Acutis Catholic and Church of England Academy. Carlo Acutis (3 May 1991 – 12 October 2006) was an English-Italian website designer who documented Eucharistic miracles and approved Marian apparitions, and catalogued both on a website he designed before his death from leukaemia. He was noted for his cheerfulness, computer skills, and devotion to the Eucharist, which became a core theme of his life. He was beatified by Pope Francis on 10 October 2020.

Halton (UK Parliament constituency)

Halton was a constituency in Cheshire, represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament from 1997 until 2024 by Derek Twigg of the Labour Party. Further to the completion of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, the seat has been abolished, with the majority, comprising the areas to the north of the River Mersey (Widnes), being included in the new constituency of Widnes and Halewood, contested at the 2024 general election. This was won by Derek Twigg at the election on 4 July 2024, who is now the MP for the area. Areas to the south of the river (Runcorn) are now included in the new constituency of Runcorn and Helsby.

The Grange Academy, Runcorn

The Grange Academy is a coeducational academy school in Runcorn, Cheshire. It is an all-through school providing primary and secondary education for pupils aged 3 to 16. Formerly The Grange Comprehensive School, in June 2007 plans were announced for the school to close and to merge with The Heath School in 2012. However, the Education & Skills Select Committee raised objections to the proposal and it was decided that the school would join the adjacent Grange Nursery School, The Grange Infant School and The Grange Junior School to be an all-through school to be named The Grange School. Following improved examination results in 2008, the plan to merge with The Heath School was cancelled and the school became all-through in September 2010.

Southgate Estate

The Southgate Estate was a modernist public housing project located in Runcorn New Town (Cheshire, England) and completed in 1977. The estate was designed by James Stirling, and comprised 1,500 residential units intended to house 6,000 people. The estate was demolished between 1990 and 1992 and replaced with another housing development, known as Hallwood Park, based around more traditional design principles. The cladding materials employed led to the estate being colloquially known as "Legoland".

Runcorn Shopping City

Runcorn Shopping City (formerly Halton Lea and Runcorn Shopping Centre) is a medium-sized indoor shopping centre in Runcorn, England. Opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1972, it is the main shopping area in Runcorn and is visited around 6.5 million times per year. It was the largest enclosed shopping centre in Europe at the time of its construction and remains the largest in Cheshire.
