Hilton Buenos Aires

The Hilton Buenos Aires is a five star hotel in the Argentine capital. The establishment is located in the city's Puerto Madero section.

1. Overview

The Hilton Buenos Aires was designed by Mario Roberto Álvarez, constructed by local developer Benito Roggio at a cost of around US$80 million, and inaugurated in January 2000. The seven-story hotel includes 417 rooms. The hotel collaborated with U.S. toymaker Mattel in 2007 to redesign a number of its rooms thematically, resulting in a 'Barbie' and a 'Hot Wheels' room. Recent prominent guests at the hotel have included former U.S. President Bill Clinton (who hosted a Clinton Global Initiative conference there) and South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford (visiting the city for pleasure). The Hilton Buenos Aires hosted the 125th IOC Session on September 7-10, 2013, where the International Olympic Committee (IOC) selected Tokyo to be the host city of the 2020 Summer Olympics. Additionally, Thomas Bach was elected as the new president of the IOC during the session.

125th IOC Session

The 125th IOC Session took place at the Buenos Aires Hilton in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from 7 to 10 September 2013. On 7 September, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) elected Tokyo as the host city of the 2020 Summer Olympic Games. Wrestling was restored to the Olympic sports program for 2020 and 2024. Thomas Bach was elected to an eight-year term as IOC President on 10 September.

Embassy of Sweden, Buenos Aires

The Embassy of Sweden in Buenos Aires is Sweden's diplomatic mission in Argentina. The ambassador since 2019 is Anders Carlsson. The embassy is located in Puerto Madero and its staff consists (in 2019) of three people from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and six local employees. In addition to Argentina, the embassy's area of activity also includes Paraguay and Uruguay. The embassy's activities include trade promotion, culture and Sweden promotion, migration and consular affairs, as well as reporting on politics, human rights and the economy.

YPF Tower

YPF Tower is a corporate high-rise building designed by internationally recognized architect César Pelli and is the headquarters of Argentine national oil company YPF. Construction began in 2005, in the Puerto Madero barrio (district) of Buenos Aires, Argentina and the office building was completed in September 2008. The building is 160 metres (520 ft) tall and has 44 floors. It was, upon completion in 2008, the tallest office building in Argentina, and the third tallest overall. The building is located on the corner of Macacha Güemes and Juana Manso streets, in the Puerto Madero ward. The building's construction cost an estimated US$134 million. The main contractor in its construction was CRIBA, a leading local contractor founded in 1952 by Alberto Tarasido. On May 25, 2012, 21 days after the nationalization of YPF by the government of Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, the YPF Tower was lit in the colors of the Argentine flag as a political statement to commemorate 202 years of self-governance. As of 2021, following years of hardship, YPF was seeking US$400 million for its sale.
