La bataille de Heavenfield se déroule en 634 et oppose l'armée northumbrienne d'Oswald de Bernicie aux Gallois de Cadwallon ap Cadfan, roi de Gwynedd. L'affrontement se solde par une victoire décisive d'Oswald. Les Annales Cambriae la datent de 631, sous le nom de Bellum Cantscaul. Bède le Vénérable l'appelle bataille de Denisesburna, près de Hefenfelth. Le site de la bataille est aujourd'hui marqué par une croix de pierre. L'église édifiée au sommet d'une colline proche marque l'endroit où Oswald aurait brandi son étendard.

Its position is slightly to the south of, but mostly covered by the B6318 Military Road., and it is located around 700 metres (0.43 miles) east of the B6318 Military Road's junction with the A6079. No visible traces exist currently. The dimensions are the same as Milecastles 23, 24, and 25.
