Le Fisherman's Wharf (« Quai des pêcheurs ») est un quartier de la ville de San Francisco en Californie (États-Unis). Son principal commerce a fait faillite à la suite de l'apparition de nouvelles technologies.

1. Description

Le quartier s'étend de la rive nord de San Francisco à Ghirardelli Square au sud, et de Van Ness Street East à Pier 39 d'est en ouest. Très prisé des touristes, ce secteur est en partie célèbre pour ses différents musées, dont celui de la Marine, ses restaurants situés sur le front de mer servant du crabe et ses ferries qui assurent la liaison avec l'île d'Alcatraz. D'autres lieux touristiques de la ville comme Chinatown, Lombard Street ou North Beach sont situés à proximité. Le plus connu est le Pier 39 avec le San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, le centre commercial de Cannery, le Ghirardelli Square, le musée Ripley's Believe It or Not!, le Musée Mécanique, le musée de cire et Forbes Island. Côté restauration, des kiosques servent des fruits de mer et plus précisément des Crabes de Dungeness et des clam chowder servis dans un bol à pain à levain. Certains restaurants, tel que le Pompeii's et Alioto's #8, appartiennent à une même famille depuis au moins trois générations. Près de Pier 45, il y existe une chapelle en mémoire des pêcheurs perdus de San Francisco et de la Californie du Nord. Elle n'est pas ouverte tous les jours, mais une fois par an, une messe est célébrée en leur honneur dans la chapelle.

Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco

Fisherman's Wharf is a neighborhood and tourist attraction in San Francisco, located in the northern part of the city's waterfront. The Aquatic Park Historic District is often considered to be part of Fisherman's Wharf, though some neighborhood descriptions treat it as a separate area. Historically a working fishing port which also had seafood restaurants that were a draw to outsiders, the fishing docks declined during the 1960s and 1970s while tourist development became dominant.

Jefferson and Taylor station

Jefferson and Taylor station is a streetcar station in the Fisherman's Wharf district of San Francisco, California, serving the San Francisco Municipal Railway's E Embarcadero and F Market & Wharves heritage railway lines. It is located on Jefferson Street at Taylor Street. The station opened on March 4, 2000, with the streetcar's extension to Fisherman's Wharf. The stop is served by the L Owl bus route, which provides service along the F Market & Wharves and L Taraval lines during the late night hours when trains do not operate.

Madame Tussauds San Francisco

Madame Tussauds San Francisco was a wax museum located in Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco in California. The attraction opened on June 26, 2014 and became the 17th Madame Tussauds museum to open worldwide. Madame Tussauds San Francisco closed on August 3, 2024 after 10 years in operation. The attraction featured wax figures of famous figures from movies, music, politics, popular culture and sport. It also celebrated “The Spirit of San Francisco” with wax figures of local artists, musicians and activists from the city's past.

Wax Museum at Fishermans Wharf

The Wax Museum at Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco, was an attraction with over 270 wax figures. Originator Thomas Fong opened the museum in 1963 after seeing the wax figures at the Seattle World's Fair and it was run by the Fong Family until its closure in 2013. It has attracted over 400,000 visitors a year.
