Tophill Low - Izeria

Tophill Low is a nature reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The site is also an active water treatment works, operated by Yorkshire Water. It lies adjacent to the River Hull approximately 6 miles (9.7 km) south west of Driffield, and 3 miles (4.8 km) east of the village of Watton. The site, which was designated a SSSI in 1989, consists of two artificial reservoirs. The nature reserve extends further to a total area of 300 acres (120 hectares). It is important as one of few inland standing open water bodies suitable for wintering wildfowl in the East Riding of Yorkshire. The reservoirs support nationally important numbers of gadwall, shoveler, and tufted duck. Also present are locally important numbers of goldeneye, great crested grebe, mallard, pochard, teal, and wigeon. The wider nature reserve comprises a variety of habitats with grassland, marshes, ponds, and woods supporting over 160 bird species across the year.

Struncheon Hill Lock

Struncheon Hill Lock was built as a later addition to the Driffield Navigation in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It improved access to the next section of water during low tide conditions where the navigation meets the tidal River Hull. It is sometimes known as "Top Hill Low", which is the name of the large pumping station located there.

Wilfholme Landing is located on the Driffield Navigation in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The navigation is still tidal at this point, and is often considered to still be the River Hull, although technically the Navigation starts at the point where the Aike Beck used to join the river, a little further downstream. It is 0.9 miles (1.4 km) from the hamlet of Wilfholme, and its main features are boat moorings, a farm and a pumping station. It is a popular spot for fishing, with anglers targeting resident roach, bream and perch.

Wilfholme

Wilfholme is a hamlet in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It forms part of the civil parish of Beswick, and is situated just east from the A164 road, approximately 5 miles (8 km) north from Beverley and 6 miles (10 km) south from Driffield. Wilfholme Landing is 0.9 miles (1.4 km) to the south-east and provides access to the Driffield Navigation. A nine-year-old dressage horse, Faldo, trained for nine months at Wilfholme, was bought in 2010 by the production company for Steven Spielberg's film War Horse to play one of the film's two horses in the role of Topthorn. In 2010 local farmers expressed concern at the Environment Agency's possible decision to stop maintaining water pumping stations and flood banks at Wilfholme, Tickton and Hempholme, which they felt would increase the risk of flooding to arable and urban areas. In 2009 the Agency had reverted plans to end this maintenance, a decision supported by local Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart.
