Magowan's Infinite Mirror Maze

Magowan's Infinite Mirror Maze is a tourist attraction on Pier 39 in San Francisco, California. It is a mirror maze in which people must find their way out, attempting to avoid confusion.

1. History

The maze was created by Charles Magowan, (April 16, 1963 – March 3, 2017) who studied psychology at Yale University, graduating in 1985. He then became the first generation four worker of Merrill Lynch and was CEO of Aquatech Systems, a Norwegian salmon farming agency. Finally, in 2006, he co-founded TradePoint Solutions, a software company before creating his labyrinth in 2009.

The maze is lit up using blacklights. It also contains 77 mirrors. While people try to escape the maze, music from the 1980s is also blared loud through speakers. Plastic gloves are provided to not get fingerprints on the mirrors.

Pier 39

Pier 39 is a shopping center and popular tourist attraction built on a pier in San Francisco, California. At Pier 39, there are shops, restaurants, a video arcade, street performances, the Aquarium of the Bay, virtual 3D rides, and views of California sea lions hauled out on docks on Pier 39's marina. A two-story carousel is one of the pier's more dominant features, although it is not directly visible from the street and sits towards the end of the pier. The family-oriented entertainment and presence of marine mammals make this a popular tourist location for families with kids. The pier is located at the edge of the Fisherman's Wharf district and is close to North Beach, Chinatown, and the Embarcadero. The area is easily accessible with the historic F Market streetcars. Attractions include Kwak, a store selling only rubber ducks, and Magowan's Infinite Mirror Maze. From the pier one can see Angel Island, Alcatraz Island, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the Bay Bridge. Blue & Gold Fleet's bay cruises leave from Pier 39.

Kwak is a store at Pier 39 in San Francisco, California specializing in rubber ducks. In 2024, it sold 50,000 ducks, with 600 different types being bought.

North Point (San Francisco)

North Point is geographic feature and, formerly, a cape on the northeast side of San Francisco, California. Historically, the location of the cape was at the foot of Loma Alta (now Telegraph Hill), approximately at what is now the intersection of Bay and Kearny Streets, just southwest of Pier 35. That location has since been covered by land fill that extends to The Embarcadero. The United States Geological Survey now treats North Point as coinciding with the location of Pier 39. In the early history of San Francisco, the original location of the Yerba Buena anchorage was near North Point, but later relocated southward to Yerba Buena Cove, south of Clarks Point. The North Point Water Pollution Control Plant, a sewage treatment plant, currently sits on the historical location of North Point. North Point Street runs a block north of Bay Street. It is built on land fill, and the eastern terminus of the street is just north of where North Point was located.

Pier 41

Pier 41 is a ferry terminal on Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. The former headquarters of Blue & Gold Fleet, their box offices are now located at Pier 39. The Pier is located east of the Fisherman's Wharf district and to the west of Pier 39. The ferry terminal is close to North Beach, Chinatown, and the Embarcadero. The area is easily accessible via the historic F Market streetcars. From Pier 41 one can see Angel Island, Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge and Pier 39. There is service to the Oakland Ferry Terminal, Vallejo Station, the Sausalito Ferry Terminal, and the Ayala Cove Ferry Terminal on Angel Island.
