Holgate Beck
Holgate Beck is a small watercourse that flows north-eastwards through Holgate across the west side of the City of York, England. Primarily flowing through Holgate, from which it derives its name, the beck drains a large part of Askham Bog and Hob Moor, then running underneath the various lines near York railway station. It empties into the River Ouse at Water End, being one of five main tributaries for the River Ouse in York, and consequently added to the flooding in the river and immediate environs. To counter this, some flood diversionary schemes have been implemented near to Askham Bog and Hob Moor. The Environment Agency list Holgate Beck as a Critical Ordinary Watercourse (COW) due to the potential for flooding from the beck.

St Barnabas' Church, York
St Barnabas' Church is a parish church in the Leeman Road area of York, a city in England.
The Leeman Road area, associated with Holgate, developed in the late 19th century as housing for railway workers. A wooden building was used for mission work from about 1877, then in 1886 a school was built and one of its rooms was used as a new mission. Work on a church for the district started in 1902, and it was consecrated on 12 March 1904. It was designed by Charles Hornsey and Thomas Monkman in the Gothic revival style, and cost about £4,000 to build. It was originally a chapel of ease to St Paul's Church, Holgate, but it was given its own parish in 1912. The original pews were made by local workers, but in 1939, St John's Church, Micklegate closed, and its pews were moved to St Barnabas. All but four of the pews were sold off in 2023, to make the church a more flexible space.
The church is built of red brick, and consists of a nave with aisles and a chancel. It has two porches at the west end, and a small bellcote.

Holgate, York
Holgate is a suburb of York in the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire, England. It is located about 1 mile west of Micklegate Bar in the city walls. Holgate is also the name of an electoral ward in the City of York unitary authority. The ward is currently bounded by the River Ouse from Scarborough Bridge to Ouse Acres on its northern boundary. Carr Lane and Ouse Acres on one side, and the intersection of York Road and Acomb Road on the other, make up its western boundary. The remainder of the southern boundary follows Moorgate and Holgate Beck to the East Coast Main Line railway which completes the eastern boundary as far as the River Ouse/Scarborough Bridge.
The ward contains the National Railway Museum and many historic buildings, including a restored 18th century windmill and a Cold War bunker. It is the site of the former York Carriage Works which closed in 1996. Thrall Car Manufacturing Company, briefly re-opened the works. After that closed in 2002 Network Rail continue to use it as a maintenance depot.
