Maryhill Harp F.C.

Maryhill Harp Football Club were a Scottish football club based in the Maryhill area of Glasgow, who played in Scottish Junior Football Association competitions from 1923 until they went out of business in 1967. Before 1939, the club were known as Maryhill Hibernians. They won the Scottish Junior Cup once, in 1928.

Summerston railway station

Summerston railway station is a railway station serving the Summerston area of Glasgow, Scotland. It is located on the Maryhill Line, 4+1⁄4 miles (7 kilometres) northwest of Glasgow Queen Street. Services are provided by ScotRail previously on behalf of Strathclyde Partnership for Transport. The original Summerston station (closed in 1951) was located about 1+1⁄2 miles (2.5 km) to the north of the present station on the defunct and dismantled Kelvin Valley Railway line between Maryhill and Kilsyth; the current one is one of five built for the Maryhill Line project by British Rail in 1993. The route on which it stands though is considerably older, being opened in 1858 by the Glasgow, Dumbarton and Helensburgh Railway and later used by West Highland Line to reach Queen Street High Level and the former Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway main line. Services initially terminated at Maryhill when the line first opened, but were subsequently extended through to Anniesland in 2005 to give access to the North Clyde Line.

Maryhill railway station

Maryhill railway station is a railway station serving the Maryhill area of Glasgow, Scotland. It is located on the Maryhill Line, 4+3⁄4 miles (7.6 km) northwest of Glasgow Queen Street, a short distance east of Maryhill Viaduct and Maryhill Park Junction. It has two side platforms. Services are provided by ScotRail on behalf of Strathclyde Partnership for Transport. Maryhill was previously the terminus for the eponymous line when it was reopened by British Rail in 1993 - the original 1858 Glasgow, Dumbarton and Helensburgh Railway "Maryhill Park" station on the same site (also the junction for the former Kelvin Valley Railway and the Stobcross Railway to Partickhill & Queens Dock) had been closed back in October 1961 by the British Transport Commission although some workmen's trains continued until 1964 after which it was subsequently demolished. Since 2005 the service has extended to Kelvindale and Anniesland to connect with the North Clyde and Argyle Lines using a reinstated section of the former Stobcross Railway line that had previously been disused since 1980 (when the signal box that formerly controlled the junction was seriously damaged by fire) and then subsequently closed & dismantled. This extension was built to remove the need for terminating services from Queen Street to run empty through to Knightswood North Junction near Westerton in order to reverse before returning to Glasgow - a process that occupied the busy junction there for several minutes whilst the driver changed ends and crossed over from one track to the other. Ending this procedure allowed more trains on the North Clyde Line to pass through the junction, freeing up paths for services from the rebuilt branch line to Larkhall on the south side of the city to run via the Argyle Line through to Milngavie.

Maryhill

Maryhill (Scottish Gaelic: Cnoc Màiri) is an area in the north-west of Glasgow in Scotland. A former independent burgh and the heart of an eponymous local authority ward, its territory is bisected by Maryhill Road, part of the A81 road which runs for a distance of roughly three miles (five kilometres) between Glasgow city centre and the suburban town of Bearsden. The far north west of the area is served by Maryhill railway station.

Glasgow North

Glasgow North is a burgh constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom (at Westminster). It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first-past-the-post voting system. It was first contested at the 2005 general election, and the incumbent MP is Martin Rhodes who was elected for Scottish Labour in 2024. At the 2016 referendum on UK membership of the European Union, the constituency voted overwhelmingly in favour of "Remain" with 78.4%. This was the fourth-highest support for a Remain vote in any constituency in the United Kingdom.
