Gipton - Izeria

Gipton is a suburb of east Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, between the A58 to the north and the A64 to the south. It is in the Gipton and Harehills ward of Leeds City Council and the Leeds East parliamentary constituency. The separate area and woodland of Gipton Wood is in Oakwood, north of Harehills and part of the Roundhay ward. Gipton’s residents are known as Giptonites.

The Church of the Epiphany (also known as the Bishop Burroughs Memorial Church of the Epiphany) in Gipton, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England is an active Anglican parish church in the archdeaconry of Leeds and the Diocese of Leeds. The church is Grade I listed.

Harehills

Harehills is an inner-city area of east Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It is about 1 mile (1.6 km) northeast of Leeds city centre. Harehills is between the A58 (towards Wetherby) and the A64 (towards York). It sits in the Gipton & Harehills ward of Leeds City Council and the Leeds East parliamentary constituency, between Burmantofts and Gipton, and adjacent to Chapeltown. Its boundaries are defined by the city council as "the boundary of Spencer Place to the West, Harehills Avenue to the North, the boundary of Foundry Place to the East and Compton Road and Stanley Road to the South." As the name suggests, it is a hill area, basically a south-facing slope, with many streets of terraced houses on hills. In the middle is Banstead Park, a grassy slope with trees and play areas, giving a view over the city of Leeds. There are two main shopping streets, Harehills Lane and Harehills Road which join at the junction of Roundhay Road (A58 road) leading to Oakwood. Also, heading 0.6 miles (1 km) up Harehills Lane towards the A64 York Road at the junction with Compton Road, is Harehills's other main shopping area. Harehills provides many shops such as casinos, corner shops and fast food. You may also find jewellery and barber shops. St James' University Hospital is situated in Harehills. Since the 1890s, cheap housing has made it attractive to immigrants, with the result that it has a considerable cultural and ethnic mixture. On the August Bank Holiday the Leeds Carnival is held with a procession through Harehills and Chapeltown.

Fearnville

Fearnville is a small area of Leeds which has boundaries with Roundhay, Seacroft, Oakwood, Gipton and Harehills. Fearnville is commonly described as being part of Roundhay or Oakwood, although it is classed as being in the Killingbeck and Seacroft ward. Fearnville had a population of 3,654 in 2011.

Wykebeck

Wykebeck is an area of east Leeds, West Yorkshire, England named after the Wyke Beck and situated between Gipton and Seacroft along Wykebeck Road. The area falls within the Gipton and Harehills ward of the Leeds City Council. The area is seldom referred to, instead people usually perceive Gipton to be West of the beck and Seacroft to be East of it. The area consists of several blocks of highrise council flats to the south. Wykebeck Valley Road runs through the area, from York Road (A64) to Foundry Lane. Wykebeck Valley walking way passes to the north of the area.
