Annan est une ville (et ancien burgh royal) d'Écosse, situé dans le council area de Dumfries and Galloway et dans la région de lieutenance du Dumfriesshire. De 1975 à 1996, elle était la capitale administrative du district d'Annandale and Eskdale, au sein de la région du Dumfries and Galloway. Elle est située sur les bords du fleuve Annan à 15 miles de Dumfries. Elle compte 8 389 habitants (recensement 2001). Annan est jumelée a la commune belge de Watermael-Boistfort. Des ruines romaines ont été retrouvées à proximité de la ville. La maison de Bruce est originaire d'Annan. Robert Burns travailla sur le port dans sa jeunesse. Robert Murray McCheyne y commença sa carrière de prédicateur. Ashley Jensen est née à Annan. Le stade de Galabank est situé dans la ville et est utilisé par le club de football Annan Athletic. L'ancien club de haut niveau, Solway Star était basé dans la ville aussi. Le club de Mid-Annandale Football Club, dont le siège est à Lockerbie, a joué ses matches à domicile au Galabank entre 2012 et 2014.

Annan, Dumfries and Galloway

Annan ( AN-ən; Scottish Gaelic: Inbhir Anainn) is a town and former royal burgh in Dumfries and Galloway, south-west Scotland. Historically part of Dumfriesshire, its public buildings include Annan Academy, of which the writer Thomas Carlyle was a pupil, and a Georgian building now known as "Bridge House". Annan also features a Historic Resources Centre. In Port Street, some of the windows remain blocked up to avoid paying the window tax. Each year on the first Saturday in July, Annan celebrates the Royal Charter and the boundaries of the Royal Burgh are confirmed when a mounted cavalcade undertakes the Riding of the Marches. Entertainment includes a procession, sports, field displays and massed pipe bands. Annan's in America first migrated to New York and Virginia. Annandale Virginia is an early settlement which celebrates The Scottish Games annually.

Annan railway station

Annan is a railway station on the Glasgow South Western Line, which runs between Carlisle and Glasgow Central via Kilmarnock. The station, situated 17 miles 51 chains (28 km) north-west of Carlisle, serves the town of Annan in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. It is owned by Network Rail and managed by ScotRail. Shortly after leaving the station, heading west towards Dumfries, the line crosses a viaduct over the River Annan and adjoining flood plains. Also, situated just to the west of the station, is a disused junction and former alignment of a line which used to head south to the Cochran's Boiler Plant at Newbie.

Newbie Branch

The Newbie Branch, Newbie Siding or Cochran & Cos Siding was a freight or mineral branch in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, located just west of Annan off the old Glasgow and South Western Railway main line. The 0.5 mile or circa 800 metres line once served the Cochran & Co. Boiler factory and the Newbie Brick and Tile Works at Newbie. The line was accessed at Newbie Junction and was approached from the west.
