Risedale - Izeria

Risedale is an area and ward of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. It is bordered by Barrow town centre, Parkside, Newbarns and Roose and had a population of 5,663 in 2001, increasing to 6,294 at the 2011 Census. Whilst still an electoral ward for Barrow Town Council, the ward was combined at a district/ local authority level with Roosecote ward on 1st April 2023 following formation of the new Westmorland and Furness Local Authority. Risedale is a fairly deprived district, with figures for unemployment being higher than Barrow and national average. Council housing makes up much of the southern area of the ward (in the form of Broadway, Gateway, Longway and Westway).

Salthouse, Barrow-in-Furness

Salthouse is an area of Barrow-in-Furness, in the Westmorland and Furness district, in the ceremonial county of Cumbria, England. Centred on Salthouse Road to the east of the town centre it was historically a ward in its own right however has since been subsumed into the wards of Risedale and Central Barrow. Salthouse Mills Industrial Estate is located in Salthouse and is home to many long-term industrial tenants including Dixons Forge, Furness Vehicle Dismantlers, Furness Heat Treatment, and Furness Joinery. It was acquired by a London based property developer Hiltongrove in 2018 and has been undergoing the transformation into a modern, outperforming 17-acre industrial site.

Furness Academy

Furness Academy is a secondary school in Barrow-in-Furness, England. It is the fourth academy to have been formed in the county of Cumbria after the closure of Alfred Barrow School, Parkview Community College of Technology and Thorncliffe School in 2009. Having utilised numerous buildings of the former Parkview and Thorncliffe Schools since 2009, a single £22 million building opened in the Parkside area of the town in September 2013. Since opening, Furness Academy has gained a somewhat tarnished reputation from having the highest exclusion rate in England (between 2009 and 2010), and a number of Ofsted reports that judged it as inadequate. The 2012 report led to the academy unsuccessfully challenging Ofsted in the High Court, and the 2013 report led to the school's being placed in 'special measures' and the suspension of the academy's principal. The school was successfully moved out of special measures in 2015. It also celebrated its best ever GCSE results in summer 2015. In 2019, Furness Academy successfully merged with the Inspired Learning Trust, to form Furness Education Trust. This multi academy Trust comprises Furness Academy, Parkside Academy, Victoria Academy, Yarlside Academy and South Cumbria School Direct.

Roose railway station

Roose is a railway station on the Furness Line, which runs between Barrow-in-Furness and Lancaster. The station, situated 1+3⁄4 miles (3 km) east of Barrow-in-Furness, serves the suburb of Roose in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. It is owned by Network Rail and managed by Northern Trains.

Cavendish Dock

Cavendish Dock is one of the four docks which make up the Royal Port of Barrow in Barrow-in-Furness, England. Covering some 591,000 square metres (6,360,000 sq ft) it is roughly the size of Barrow's other three docks combined. It is named after William Cavendish, 7th Duke of Devonshire who invested heavily in the industrial growth of Barrow. Cavendish Dock is owned by Associated British Ports, however it is now entirely enclosed serving as a reservoir. It is also a popular fishing destination due to the diverse and unique wildlife found as a result of the control of water in and out the dock. Fishing is controlled by Barrow Angling Association and memberships are required to fish the water. During the early 20th century, Cavendish Dock was home to an airship construction facility before the works were transferred to nearby Barrow/Walney Island Airport.
