The Ackerman–Smith House is located at 171 East Allendale Road in the borough of Saddle River in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The oldest part of this historic house was built around 1760. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 29, 1986, for its significance in architecture. It was listed as part of the Saddle River Multiple Property Submission.
From 1881 to 1901, it was the home of Alfred P. Smith, publisher of The Landscape. According to the nomination form, it was one of the earliest newspapers published in the state by an African-American.

In 1797, Catherine Ackerman purchased 77 acres of land to build a house for her son Abraham P. Ackerman. The one-and-a-half-story house was completed by 1802. A kitchen wing was added later. Their son, William Ackerman, lived here in 1861 and added the frame wing behind the kitchen. His son, Abraham W. Ackerman, built the mansard roof around 1875–1876.

The Saddle River School District is a community public school district that serves students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade from Saddle River, in Bergen County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey.
As of the 2024–25 school year, the district, comprised of one school, had an enrollment of 125 students and 14.7 classroom teachers, for a student–teacher ratio of 8.5:1. In the 2016–17 school year, Saddle River was tied for the 28th-smallest enrollment of any school district in the state, with 150 students.

It was listed as part of the Early Stone Houses of Bergen County Multiple Property Submission (MPS) and the Saddle River MPS. The house was the home of Larry Blyden and Carol Haney in the 1960s. It was owned (but never occupied) by travel pioneer Mario Perillo until his death in 2003, and subsequently passed on to a trust in his son Stephen Perillo's name, who is the present owner. It was largely destroyed by fire in 2004, though a portion of the original structure remains intact as a guest cottage.
