Altoona ( al-TOO-nə) is a city in Eau Claire County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 8,292 at the 2020 census with an estimated population in 2022 of 9,149. The city is a railroad terminal on the Union Pacific Railroad.

WQOW is a television station licensed to Eau Claire, Wisconsin, in the United States. It serves the Chippewa Valley as an affiliate of the ABC network and is owned by Allen Media Group. The station's studios are located on Friedeck Road in Eau Claire, while its transmitter is located at the WEAU facilities in nearby Altoona, Wisconsin.
Although identifying as a separate station in its own right, WQOW is considered a semi-satellite of WXOW. It carries most of WXOW's syndicated programming but airs its own commercials, identifications, local newscasts, severe weather cut-ins, and Sunday religious programs. The station also maintains an independent web and social media presence. WQOW serves the northern portion of the La Crosse and Eau Claire media market, while WXOW covers the southern area. Although WQOW maintains its own facilities, some functions such as master control and other technical operations are handled by WXOW's studio near La Crescent, Minnesota. The two stations are reported as one for ratings purposes. As of October 2025, DirecTV, Dish Network, and most vMVPD providers carry both WXOW and WQOW.

Lake Altoona is a man-made lake in Eau Claire County, Wisconsin, United States, bordering the city of Altoona, Wisconsin, and to the east of Eau Claire.
The lake was created by impounding the Eau Claire River with the construction of the Altoona 2WP340 Dam in 1938, with a concrete spillway and sluice gates on the western end of the reservoir. The dam is owned and operated by Eau Claire County for recreation and water conservation. No hydroelectric power is generated.
The lake has a surface area of 840 acres, and is adjacent to Lake Altoona County Park with various recreational facilities. Altoona Lake is a 720 acres lake located in Eau Claire County. It has a maximum depth of 25 feet.

Regis High School is a private Catholic high school in Eau Claire, Wisconsin in the Diocese of La Crosse. The school serves grades 9 through 12 in high school, while the school building also houses Regis Middle School which serves grades 6 through 8. It is part of the Regis Catholic Schools system, which also includes three elementary schools. Bishop John Joseph Paul helped establish the present school.

The Soo Line Railroad Bridge, known locally as the S-Bridge, is a steel Warren deck truss bridge over the Eau Claire River in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, United States. It was built by the Minneapolis Steel and Machinery Company in 1910 for the Soo Line Railroad to replace an 1890 wooden bridge. The bridge bends in an S shape over its 442 foot length in order to allow trains to cross the Eau Claire River on gentle curves between the parallel tracks located on either side of the river. The bridge was abandoned in 1991 and turned into a trail in 2002. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 12, 2022.
