Newton Mearns (Scottish Gaelic: Baile Ùr na Maoirne [ˈpalə ˈuːɾ nə ˈmɯːrˠɲə]) is a suburban town and the largest settlement in East Renfrewshire, Scotland. It lies 7 miles (11 km) southwest of Glasgow City Centre on historically the main road to Ayrshire, 410 feet (125 m) above sea level. It has a population of approximately 26,993, stretching from Whitecraigs and Kirkhill in the northeast to Maidenhill in the southeast, to Westacres and Greenlaw in the west and Capelrig/Patterton in the northwest.
It is part of the Greater Glasgow conurbation. Its name derives from being a new town of the parish of Mearns (from Scottish Gaelic maoirne, meaning a stewartry).

The congregation is a member of the Movement for Reform Judaism and is the only Reform synagogue in Scotland. The synagogue was first known as Glasgow Progressive Synagogue, then Glasgow New Synagogue, before taking its current name.

Mearns Castle High School is a secondary school situated on Waterfoot Road in Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire, Scotland roughly seven miles (eleven kilometres) from Glasgow. It was built in 1978, and pupils from Eaglesham Primary, Kirkhill Primary, Maidenhill Primary, Calderwood Lodge and Mearns Primary are all part of the school's catchment area.
Mearns Castle is situated next to Maxwell Mearns Church. It is also positioned next to Mearns Castle (15th century), hence the name, "Mearns Castle High School".

Netherplace
Netherplace is a hamlet in East Renfrewshire. It is to the west of Newton Mearns, and adjacent to the M77 motorway. The settlement is almost entirely along the Netherplace Road. It contains a farm, as well as some houses, and a reservoir. It also used to be home to the Netherplace Dye Works, which was demolished in 2016, after a fly infestation across Newton Mearns which also spread to nearby Giffnock and Clarkston.
