Mearns Castle High School

Mearns Castle High School is a secondary school situated on Waterfoot Road in Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire, Scotland roughly seven miles (eleven kilometres) from Glasgow. It was built in 1978, and pupils from Eaglesham Primary, Kirkhill Primary, Maidenhill Primary, Calderwood Lodge and Mearns Primary are all part of the school's catchment area. Mearns Castle is situated next to Maxwell Mearns Church. It is also positioned next to Mearns Castle (15th century), hence the name, "Mearns Castle High School".

Glasgow Reform Synagogue (Hebrew: אוֹר חָדָשׁ) is a Reform Jewish synagogue, located in Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire, Scotland, in the United Kingdom. The congregation is a member of the Movement for Reform Judaism and is the only Reform synagogue in Scotland. The synagogue was first known as Glasgow Progressive Synagogue, then Glasgow New Synagogue, before taking its current name.

Newton Mearns (Scottish Gaelic: Baile Ùr na Maoirne [ˈpalə ˈuːɾ nə ˈmɯːrˠɲə]) is a suburban town and the largest settlement in East Renfrewshire, Scotland. It lies 7 miles (11 km) southwest of Glasgow City Centre on historically the main road to Ayrshire, 410 feet (125 m) above sea level. It has a population of approximately 26,993, stretching from Whitecraigs and Kirkhill in the northeast to Maidenhill in the southeast, to Westacres and Greenlaw in the west and Capelrig/Patterton in the northwest. It is part of the Greater Glasgow conurbation. Its name derives from being a new town of the parish of Mearns (from Scottish Gaelic maoirne, meaning a stewartry).

Waterfoot, East Renfrewshire

Waterfoot (Scots: Watterfit) is a village in East Renfrewshire, Scotland. It is on the B767 road between Clarkston and Eaglesham, which are 1 mile (1.6 km) to the north and south respectively, while Newton Mearns is about 2 miles (3 km) to the west and East Kilbride about 5 miles (8 km) to the southeast. The village shares a community council with the neighbouring community of Eaglesham, the Eaglesham and Waterfoot Community Council meets in Eaglesham on a monthly basis. During the Second World War, deputy leader of the Nazi party Rudolf Hess, crash landed in Floors Farm, west of the village. He was arrested and held in custody until after the war, when he was tried at the Nuremberg trials. The audio equipment manufacturer Linn Products has its factory to the southwest of Waterfoot.
