Huddersfield Viaduct

Huddersfield Viaduct (or Hillhouse Viaduct) is a railway bridge to the north-east of Huddersfield railway station in West Yorkshire, England. The viaduct carries the Huddersfield Line connecting Huddersfield with Dewsbury, Leeds, and York eastwards, and Manchester and Liverpool westwards. The viaduct was built to carry two lines, but was widened in the 1880s to take four tracks, and then reduced to two tracks in 1970. Huddersfield Viaduct is less well-known than other viaducts in the Kirklees area as they are higher, but Huddersfield Viaduct is the longest in the Kirklees district. As part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU), the viaduct will again have four lines along the whole 663 yards (606 m), and will additionally be electrified with a 25 kV overhead catenary by the 2030s.

Huddersfield factory fire

The Huddersfield factory fire occurred on 31 October 1941 in the town of Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England, inside the H Booth & Son factory. The fire was caused by a smoker's pipe left alight inside a raincoat pocket when work had just commenced. It destroyed the building and killed 49, most of them women and young girls. Many were left trapped in the upper floors of the five storey building as it did not have a fire escape. In November 2012, a memorial was unveiled on the site to commemorate 71 years since the disaster.

Pennine Radio Limited

Pennine Radio Limited is a UK manufacturer of electronic equipment, transformers and inductors, ride on electric golf carts, sheet metalwork and computer equipment. Founded in 1958 the company started off producing radio receivers and adapters to enable the new band III ITV television broadcasts. However they soon expanded into industrial electronics. In the early days, they produced many innovative designs for the woollen industry which surrounded Huddersfield. Pennine Radio's Headquarters are in a Victorian grade 2 listed building on Fitzwilliam Street Huddersfield. The company currently manufactures golf carts, transformers, and offers contract printed circuit board, electronics assembly, and sheet-metal fabrication. The company is wholly owned by one family.

Huddersfield power station

Huddersfield power station supplied electricity to the town of Huddersfield and the wider area from 1893 to 1981. It was owned and operated by Huddersfield Corporation until the nationalisation of the electricity supply industry in 1948. The power station was redeveloped several times: including the incorporation of new plant in the 1910s, and in the 1930s to 1950s. The station was decommissioned in October 1981. Another power station, together with car sheds and offices, was located at Longroyd Bridge which supplied the Huddersfield tram system with electricity from 1901 to 1940.
