Adlington est une ville et une paroisse civile britannique située dans le Lancashire, en Angleterre. Elle est située dans le sud du comté, près des landes des West Pennine Moors, à 5 km au sud du centre-ville de Chorley. Administrativement, elle relève du borough de Chorley. Au recensement de 2011, elle compte 6 010 habitants.

1. Étymologie

Le nom Adlington est d'origine vieil-anglaise. Il est construit à partir de l'anthroponyme Eadwulf, auquel sont ajoutés les suffixes -ing et tūn, désignant ainsi un domaine appartenant ou associé à un homme nommé Eadwulf. La localité est attestée vers 1190 sous le nom Edeluinton.

Adlington est traversée par la route A6 (en) qui relie Luton, dans le Bedfordshire, à Carlisle, en Cumbria. L'autoroute A61 (en), qui relie Preston à Manchester, passe juste à l'est de la ville. La gare d'Adlington (en) est desservie par les trains de la Manchester–Preston line (en).

Adlington is a village and civil parish in the Borough of Chorley in Lancashire, England, near the West Pennine Moors. It is 3 miles (5 kilometres) south of Chorley. It became a separate parish in 1842 then grew into a township around the textile and coal mining industries until these closed in the 1960s. It had a population of 5,270 at the 2001 census, and risen to 6,010 at the 2011 census. The Leeds and Liverpool Canal runs through the village, where it holds White Bear Marina, the largest marina on the Canal.

Grimeford village is in the parish. In 2001, the parish had a population of 1,206, increasing to 1,316 at the 2011 census. The Rivington services on the M61 are at the south of the parish.
