Hogganfield - Izeria

Hogganfield ( HUG-ən-feeld) is a district in the Scottish city of Glasgow, located to the north east of the city centre. Hogganfield is surrounded by the Glasgow districts of Blackhill, Craigend, Millerston, Provanmill, Riddrie, Robroyston, Ruchazie and Stepps. The M80, Stepps bypass, separates Hogganfield from Robroyston.

Old Aloysians RFC

Old Aloysians RFC was an amateur rugby union club in Glasgow, Scotland. The club no longer exists. In 1990, they merged with rivals Hutcheson's GSFP to form Hutchesons Aloysians.

Robroyston railway station

Robroyston railway station serves the suburbs of Millerston and Robroyston in Glasgow, Scotland. The station is located on the Cumbernauld Line, and is managed by ScotRail. The station, which includes a park and ride facility and a through road connecting the two communities, opened on 15 December 2019. It is part of a wider development plan for the local area including 1,600 new houses. There was previously a Robroyston station (and a marshalling yard) at the same location, on the line originally operated by the Garnkirk and Glasgow Railway which later formed part of the Caledonian Railway main line; this operated from 1898 to 1917, and from 1919 to 1956.

Millerston

Millerston is a district partially in the Scottish city of Glasgow and partially in North Lanarkshire. It is situated north of the River Clyde, to the north of the city's Craigend, Garthamlock and Ruchazie neighbourhoods, but physically separated from them by parkland and wooded areas. It is also home to the playing fields of Glasgow's St Aloysius College and Strathclyde University. Whilst part of Millerston belongs to Glasgow City Council, the other part is served by North Lanarkshire Council. The official Millerston boundary starts at Hogganfield Loch stretching all the way down Cumbernauld Road as far as Laundry Lane but in recent times, the area has been incorporated into the larger town of Stepps which is entirely within North Lanarkshire. Millerston enjoys a convenient location due to its close proximity to Glasgow City Centre and has been identified as one of the growth areas for Glasgow City Council. A train station (at Robroyston, with a new road connecting Millerston to the suburb of that name - they were previously separated by fields) is in the pipeline as are many new homes and businesses. The area has countryside on the doorstep along with many pleasant places to walk locally such as Hogganfield Park. Millerston sits between the M8 and M80 motorway networks, making it popular for commuting throughout the Central Belt. The new railway station approach road will also allow access to Junction 2 of the M80, a quicker connection for local residents who currently must travel through Stepps to Junction 3; however, this may also increase traffic in the area. There are two public houses in Millerston, The Dug and Duck and The Real MacKay. The district is also home to a fish and chip shop, a curry house, a Chinese take-away, a convenience store, a post office and a small church, Millerston United Free Church of Scotland.

Provanmill

Provanmill is a district in the Scottish city of Glasgow. It lies to the north east of the city centre. In the mid-19th century it was a small hamlet with a grain mill, blacksmith's, cartwright's and hostelry. As Glasgow expanded, it became part of the city. Since the 1950s, the area became a major area of deprivation, with chronic housing and drug-related crime problems, although in the early 21st century the image of Provanmill and its surrounding areas is improving. Blackhill, one of the most notorious housing estates in the area, was demolished in 1990 to make way for the M80 Stepps bypass. Provanmill and Blackhill were known for being majority Irish Catholic and still to this day the demographics show that the areas, as well as nearby Royston (previously known as the Garngad), remain predominantly Catholic and still feature Irish republican marches annually. The area was also the home of infamous Glasgow gangster Arthur Thompson (a.k.a. "The Glasgow Godfather"). Provanmill's most famous landmark is the iconic twin gasometers of the now largely disused Provan Gas Works, which have become a portal into the city for motorists arriving on the adjacent M8 and M80 motorways.
