Edenside - Izeria

Edenside is a cricket ground in Carlisle, Cumbria. The ground is the primary home ground of Cumbria County Cricket Club. The first recorded match on the ground was in 1850, when Carlisle played an All England Eleven. The ground hosted its first Minor Counties Championship match when Cumberland played the Yorkshire Second XI in 1955. From 1955 to present, the ground has hosted 45 Minor Counties Championship matches. To date the ground has not hosted any MCCA Knockout Trophy matches. The ground has hosted 2 List-A matches, the first of which saw Cumberland play Middlesex in the 1996 NatWest Trophy. The second List-A match played on Edenside saw Cumberland play Kent in the 2000 NatWest Trophy. The home county lost both of these matches against their professional, first-class opponents. In local domestic cricket, Edenside is the home ground of Carlisle Cricket Club, who play in the North Lancashire and Cumbria League Premier Division.

River Caldew

The River Caldew is a river running through Cumbria in England. The river rises high up on the northern flanks of Skiddaw, in the Northern Fells area of the English Lake District, and flows in a northerly direction until it joins the River Eden on the north side of the city of Carlisle. The Cumbria Way follows most of the course of the river, from its early stages in the Skiddaw Forest to Carrock Fell and again from Caldbeck through to the centre of Carlisle.

Stanwix

Stanwix is a district of Carlisle, Cumbria in North West England. The ward population (called Stanwix Urban) had a population taken at the 2011 census of 5,934. It is located on the north side of River Eden, across from Carlisle city centre. Although long counted as a suburb it did not officially become part of the city until 1912 when part of the civil parish of Stanwix became part of the parish, city and municipal borough of Carlisle. Further areas were added to the city, which was by then a county borough, in 1934 and 1951. The remaining part of the parish was eventually renamed Stanwix Rural in 1966.

Siege of Carlisle (1644)

The siege of Carlisle occurred during the First English Civil War when the allied forces of the Scottish Covenanters and the English Parliamentarians besieged Carlisle Castle which was held at the time by the English Royalist forces loyal to King Charles I. The siege took place in Carlisle, Cumbria from October 1644 to 25 June 1645.
