Century Mill, Farnworth

Century Mill, Farnworth is a former cotton spinning mill in Farnworth, Bolton, Greater Manchester, England which was built in the early 20th century for ring spinning. It was taken over by the Lancashire Cotton Corporation in the 1930s and passed to Courtaulds in 1964. The 6,674.00-square-metre (71,838.3 sq ft) building is still in use for various other purposes in 2016.

Plodder Lane railway station served the southern part of Bolton and the western, Highfield, part of Farnworth. The station was located on the southern side of a bridge carrying Plodder Lane, the present B6199. The wooden station building was at road level with steps down to both platforms. Plodder Lane station was on the London and North Western Railway route between Bolton Great Moor Street and Manchester Exchange.

Harper Green School

Harper Green School is a coeducational secondary school located in Farnworth, Greater Manchester, England. On 1 March 2017 the school converted into an Academy along with Rivington and Blackrod High School. The school is part of Leverhulme Academy Trust. Built around a central quad, it became comprehensive in 1982. The school is housed in a mixture of traditional and modern buildings where there are facilities for a wide range of activities and interests. The accommodation facilities include 23 general classrooms, two music rooms, recording studio, theatre, eight ICT rooms, two dance studios, 11 science laboratories and three art and design workshops including specialist facilities for ceramics, printmaking and ICT. The sports facilities include indoor and outdoor tennis courts, large sports hall and gymnasium and playing fields including Astroturf, football and hockey pitch. The school houses the Alan Ball Sports Hall, as well as the Peter Kay Theatre. In 2006, Peter Kay filmed a music video at Harper Green with the Scottish band Texas. The Harper Green curriculum until Year 9 GCSE choices consist of: Maths, English, Science, Computing, Art, Design & Technology, Food and health catering, History, Geography, Drama, Music, P.E, RE, Languages (Spanish, French etc) and social learning (PSHE). Plodder Lane engine shed

Plodder Lane engine shed was built by the LNWR to coincide with expanding its operations in the Bolton area in the 1870s and in particular the opening of a direct route from Bolton Great Moor Street station to Manchester via Walkden in 1875.
