Benton is an area of North Tyneside in Tyne and Wear, England. It is 4 miles (6 km) to the north east of Newcastle upon Tyne. The parish of St Bartholomew, Longbenton, is within the North Tyneside district. The population of the North Tyneside Ward taken at the Census 2011 was 10,359. The area is contiguous with the suburbs of Newcastle.

Longbenton Metro station
Longbenton is a Tyne and Wear Metro station, and former British Rail station, in the English metropolitan county of Tyne and Wear. It was originally opened on 14 July 1947 by the North Eastern Railway, and became part of the Tyne and Wear Metro on 11 August 1980. It should not be confused with a previous station, on the site of the current Four Lane Ends Metro station, that opened in 1864, closed in 1871, and was variously called Benton, Long Benton and Longbenton.
The railway at this point forms the boundary between the city of Newcastle upon Tyne and the borough of North Tyneside, with the southern entrance to the station in Newcastle and the northern entrance in North Tyneside. The station serves the government offices at Benton Park View and the Freeman Hospital, both in Newcastle, and the North Tyneside suburb of Longbenton.

Benton Park View
Benton Park View, located in Benton, a suburb of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom, is a multi-agency site of the UK Government. The complex is one of the largest secure civilian government complexes in Europe. The site is owned by Newcastle Estates Partnership and the principal tenants are His Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). The site consists of a large group of office blocks within a secure perimeter.
The official name of the site is "Benton Park View", but it is known best, especially in Newcastle, as "The Ministry", after its original purpose as the administrative centre for the Ministry of Pensions (later the Ministry of Pensions and National Insurance).
The site is well served by public transport. The nearest stop on the Tyne and Wear Metro system is Longbenton, which also serves the nearby suburb in North Tyneside (north of the railway line) called 'Longbenton', and a station at Four Lane Ends is located a short distance away. Both stations are served by trains on the Yellow Line service of the Metro and a number of special bus services to bring workers from outlying areas.
