The Oaks Academy (Cheshire)

The Oaks Academy (formerly King's Grove High School) is an 11 – 16 mixed secondary school with an academy status located on Buchan Grove in Crewe, Cheshire, England. It has approximately 700 pupils. The 2024 Ofsted inspection graded the school as ‘Good’ in all areas and the report commented on how the “school has created a welcoming and supportive environment for its pupils” and “has high aspirations for all pupils”.

1. History

In 1914 the former Crewe County Grammar School for Girls was formed on the site. In 1978 the school went on to become King’s Grove Comprehensive School and merged with Kingsway Secondary School. At this stage boys joined the school. The school was administered by Cheshire East Council. In 2016 the school became the Oaks Academy and converted to academy status and went on to join The Learning Alliance in 2020. More recently in 2023 The Learning Alliance and Learning for Life Partnership merged to become The Learning Partnership.

The Oaks Academy teaching and learning framework is underpinned by TEEP (Teacher Effective Enhancement Programme) a nationally recognised framework endorsed by SSAT. TEEP is a pedagogical framework and training programme that acknowledges teachers’ expertise and experience, building a culture of collaborative practice.

Pupils at The Oaks Academy experience a varied careers programme including close working partnerships with local employers such as Bentley Motors, Alstom and Balfour Beaty. There are extensive enrichment opportunities which include visiting World War 1 battlefields in Belgium, Skiing in Italy and Duke of Edinburgh Awards Programme.

South Cheshire College is a former further education college, located in Crewe, Cheshire, England. The College was a single campus situated in a residential area about one mile from Crewe town centre. It also served students from Nantwich, Alsager, Middlewich, Sandbach, Congleton and throughout South and East Cheshire. The College also provided courses for adults at a range of centres, including high street locations in Middlewich and Congleton. It merged in March 2017 with West Cheshire College to form Cheshire College – South & West, which retains the Crewe campus.
