Tarbet, Argyll

Tarbet (Scottish Gaelic: An Tairbeart, in full Tairbeart Loch Laomainn 'Crossing Place of Loch Lomond') is a small village in Argyll and Bute, Scotland, located within the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. Traditionally on the northern fringes of the historic County of Dunbartonshire, it is on the banks of Loch Lomond, and has a pier. It stands on an isthmus where Loch Long and Loch Lomond come close. The village of Arrochar stands at the head of Loch Long, at the other side of the isthmus. Arrochar and Tarbet railway station, on the West Highland Line, stands between the two villages. The village has a primary school (Arrochar Primary School), hotels and bed and breakfasts, and a Tourist Information Centre. Its name comes from the Scottish Gaelic word for isthmus, although Tarbert is the more common anglicization, and Tarbat also exists. The village is formed around the junction of the A82 (Glasgow/Inverness) and A83 (Tarbert/Campbeltown). The area around Arrochar and Tarbet has become the scene of "squirrel wars". The red squirrel is resisting the offensive by the grey squirrel taking place across United Kingdom, since there is a type of woodland they find more favourable than most.

Île Wallace (Argyll et Bute)

L'île Wallace est une île du loch Lomond, en Écosse. C’est une île basse et plate à l’embouchure de l’eau d’Inveruglas, juste au sud d’Inveruglas et non loin de l’île Inveruglas. Elle est recouverte d’aulnes. L’île est peut-être nommée d’après le patriote écossais, William Wallace, qui y a peut-être cherché refuge.

Inversnaid

Inversnaid (en gaélique écossais Inbhir Snàthaid) est une petite communauté rurale sur la rive est du Loch Lomond en Écosse, près de l’extrémité nord du loch. Elle dispose d’une jetée et d’un hôtel, et le West Highland Way traverse la région. Un petit ferry de passagers va d’Inversnaid à Inveruglas sur la rive opposée du loch, et aussi à Tarbet. Il y a un ferry saisonnier qui opère également entre Ardlui et Ardleish, qui est à distance de marche d’Inversnaid. Pour atteindre Inversnaid par la route cela implique un itinéraire de 15 miles (24 kilomètres) d’Aberfoyle. À proximité se trouve une cachette présumée de Rob Roy MacGregor, connue sous le nom de Rob Roy’s Cave. La grotte est difficile d’accès, et est mieux vue depuis le Loch Lomond, car il y a de la peinture blanche indiquant l’emplacement de la cachette.
