East Ayrshire

East Ayrshire (Scots: Aest Ayrshire; Scottish Gaelic: Siorrachd Àir an Ear) is one of 32 unitary council areas of Scotland. It shares borders with Dumfries and Galloway, East Renfrewshire, North Ayrshire, South Ayrshire and South Lanarkshire. The headquarters of the council are located on London Road, Kilmarnock. With South Ayrshire and the mainland areas of North Ayrshire, it formed the former county of Ayrshire. East Ayrshire had a population of 122,100 at the 2011 census, making it the 16th most populous local authority in Scotland. Spanning a geographical area of 1,262 km2 (487 sq mi), East Ayrshire is the 14th-largest local authority in Scotland in terms of geographical area. The majority of the population of East Ayrshire live within and surrounding the main town, Kilmarnock. Other large population areas in East Ayrshire include Cumnock, the second-largest town, and smaller towns and villages such as Stewarton, Darvel, Bellsbank, and Hurlford. The area is home to the largest education campus in Scotland, the Robert Burns Academy, which is located in the second largest town, Cumnock.

Auchinleck

Auchinleck (gaélique écossais: Achadh nan Leac) est un grand village avec une population d'environ 3 900 habitants, située à 8 km au sud-est de Mauchline Muirkirk et à quelques kilomètres au nord-ouest de Catrine Craigmalloch Cumnock, dans le East Ayrshire, en Écosse. Près du village se trouve « Auchinleck House », ancienne demeure de l'homme de loi, diariste et biographe James Boswell, 9e Laird d'Auchinleck. Le club de football junior Auchinleck Talbot joue à Beechwood park dans le village. Son nom dérive d'Achadh nan Leac, qui signifie, en écossais, « Champ des pierres levées ».

Viaduc de Ballochmyle

Le viaduc de Ballochmyle est un viaduc ferroviaire situé en Écosse. C'est l'ouvrage ferroviaire le plus élevé existant en Grande-Bretagne. D'une hauteur de 52 mètres, le viaduc, qui franchit le fleuve Ayr, est situé dans l'est du comté d'Ayrshire, à proximité des villes de Mauchline et de Catrine.
