Grange Lane railway station (South Yorkshire)

Grange Lane railway station was a railway station located on the South Yorkshire Railway line between Sheffield and Barnsley in South Yorkshire, England. At the time of its building it was located alongside the lane from which it takes its name with few houses nearby. From the early 1890s it became the interchange point with coal traffic from Grange Colliery at Kimberworth in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. The colliery was sunk in 1891 and coal production ceased in 1963. The colliery site is now Grange Park golf course. The station, opened in June 1855, consisted of two flanking platforms with buildings on each. The line and the crossing gates were controlled from a signal box situated at the end of the platform adjacent to the gates. The station was closed on 7 December 1953 and most buildings existed until late 2011; the station building is a private residence.

Ecclesfield East railway station

Ecclesfield East railway station was built by the South Yorkshire Railway on their "Blackburn Valley" line between Sheffield Wicker and Barnsley. The station was intended to serve the parish of Ecclesfield, near Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England, although it is some distance from the centre of the village. The original "Ecclesfield" railway station was opened in September 1854 and closed just two years later. It was replaced by a new station opened in 1876, with buildings and staggered platforms linked by a footbridge and cost £1985 (including sidings and approach road). These buildings are identical to those at Meadowhall although it had staggered platforms. By this time the line was worked by the Manchester Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway and the trains ran into their Sheffield Victoria Station. The station closed on 7 December 1953 and has been completely dismantled. The nearby station of Ecclesfield West was initially also known as Ecclesfield.

Concord Park

Concord Park is a large park in the North of Sheffield, England, between Shiregreen and Wincobank. The park consists of Concord Park Golf Course, a country park and Woolley Woods, bordered by Ecclesfield Road. A Grade II listed cruck barn lies at the entrance to the park, the last remnant of the mediaeval hamlet of Oaksfold.

Shiregreen child murders

At around 07:30 BST on 24 May 2019, police officers were called to a residential property on Gregg House Road in Shiregreen, a northern suburb of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, following reports concerning the welfare of children. Six children were found unconscious inside the property; they were treated at the Sheffield Children's Hospital, where the two oldest children later died. Two people, Brandon Machin, a 38- or 39-year-old man and Sarah Barrass, the 34-year-old mother of the children, were arrested at the property on suspicion of murder.

Thorpe Hesley

Thorpe Hesley is a village in the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham, South Yorkshire, England, lying east of the M1 motorway at junction 35. The village has been included within the boundaries of Rotherham town since 1894, having previously been divided between the townships of Kimberworth and Wentworth. Historically the village was known for coal mining and nail making. It has an Anglican church, Holy Trinity, built in 1839 chiefly at the cost of Earl Fitzwilliam and the Earl of Effingham. There is one post office, which is located within a convenience store, one petrol station and four public houses. At the 2021 Census, it had a population of 4,150.
