Strathclyde Institute of Education

The Strathclyde Institute of Education is the education school and part of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland.

The Faculty of Education was formed in 1992 when the renowned Jordanhill College of Education (the first institution in Europe to train teachers) made the decision to merge with the University of Strathclyde in order to create a new faculty. The Faculty was launched on 1 April 1993, with its long history in the field of training new teachers; latterly however, it also trained education professionals in the arts, community education, physical education, sport and outdoor education, social work and speech and language therapy. The Faculty of Education was housed at the Jordanhill campus in the west end of Glasgow until 2012. Since relocating to the city centre campus the faculty became the Institute of Education. The Jordanhill campus housed the largest education research library in Scotland. There were two student residences on campus.

Jordanhill College

Jordanhill College of Education was a higher education college in Jordanhill, Glasgow, Scotland. It opened as a teacher training college in 1921. The college merged with the University of Strathclyde in 1993, becoming its Faculty of Education. In 2012 all educational activities were moved to the John Anderson Campus and the campus closed.

Jordanhill

Jordanhill (Scots: Jordanhull, Scottish Gaelic: Cnoc Iòrdain) is an affluent area of the West End of the city of Glasgow, Scotland. The area consists largely of terraced housing dating from the early to mid 20th century, with some detached and semi-detached homes and some modern apartments. Jordanhill College of Education and then the University of Strathclyde faculty of education were formerly in the area and the associated school has a high reputation.

Victoria Park City Of Glasgow full name Victoria Park City Of Glasgow Athletics Club is a Scottish athletics club based in Glasgow, Scotland. The club is based primarily at the Scotstoun Stadium on Danes Drive.

Jordanhill School

Jordanhill School, located in Jordanhill, Glasgow, educates children from age 4–19. It was formerly run by Jordanhill College of Education as its demonstration school, and was previously known as Jordanhill College School. Uniquely among Scottish schools, it is funded directly by the Scottish Government (rather than through the local authority, in this case Glasgow City Council). The school consists of a primary department and a secondary department. In the primary, P1 and P2 have three classes of twenty-two pupils each while P3–P7 have two classes of thirty-three. Pupils in upper Primary spend up to 60% of their week working in the Secondary department. The secondary school takes in an additional thirty-three pupils in S1 to bring the number per year up to 99. The school is categorised as non-denominational. The school is state-funded by direct grant from the Scottish Government, and is non fee-paying. The school catchment area encompasses predominantly owner-occupied housing in West Glasgow. The school regularly records among the best exam results in Scotland.
