Anderston

Anderston (Anderstoun en scots, Baile Aindrea en gaélique écossais) est un district de la ville écossaise de Glasgow. Cette ancienne ville, devenue burgh of barony (en) en 1824, a été rattachée à Glasgow en 1846. Le paysage local a été bouleversé dans les années 1960 par la construction de l'autoroute M8, qui traverse le district, et de la mégastructure de l'Anderston Centre (en), combinant magasins, arrêt de bus et immeubles résidentiels et de bureaux.

Anderston (Scots: Anderstoun, Scottish Gaelic: Baile Aindrea - a portmanteau of "Anderson's Town") is an area within inner Glasgow, Scotland. It is on the north bank of the River Clyde and forms the south western edge of the city centre. Established as a village of handloom weavers in the early 18th century, Anderston was an independent burgh of barony from 1824 until it was incorporated into the City of Glasgow in 1846. The district is served by Anderston railway station. It is bordered by Charing Cross to the north, Blythswood Hill to the east and Finnieston to the west.

The Garage, Glasgow

The Garage (formerly known as The Mayfair) is a music venue and nightclub located at 490 Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow, Scotland. The club was founded by Donald C MacLeod, a veteran within Scotland's live music scene. It is Scotland's largest nightclub, opening its doors in 1994. The main hall was the first Locarno ballroom in the UK, although it has since been remodelled by the addition of an extension to the mezzanine level. The Garage is made up of various rooms which play different genres of music which are all accessed under one roof. The Main Hall, the biggest room, plays chart and remixes, G2 plays RnB hits, Desperados bar plays cheesy and nostalgia while the final room The Attic plays indie and rock. As a gig venue, it is primarily known as a stepping-stone for bands which are attempting to make their way to the top, which was very similar to the O2 ABC Glasgow, which closed in 2018 due to a fire. The Garage has hosted Prince, Biffy Clyro, One Direction, Kasabian and Marilyn Manson. They have also hosted comedy nights and ICW wrestling matches. The venue is owned by Holdfast Entertainment LTD who also own Cathouse Rock Club, situated in Glasgow city centre.

Beresford Hotel

The Beresford is a former hotel situated at 460 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, Scotland. It opened in 1938 to provide accommodation for those attending the city's Empire Exhibition and was often described as Glasgow's first skyscraper, being the tallest building erected in Glasgow between the two world wars, at seven storeys high. It is one of the city's most notable examples of Art Deco/Streamline Moderne architecture, and is protected as a category B listed building. The first public address by the young John F. Kennedy was delivered in the hotel in 1939.

Scottish Jewish Archives Centre

The Scottish Jewish Archives Centre (SJAC) is the largest repository of items relating to Jewish migration to Scotland and life in Scotland. It aims to document and illustrate the religious, organisational, social, economic, political, cultural and family life of Jews in Scotland from the 18th century to the present-day in order to heighten awareness - and to stimulate study of - the country's Jewish heritage. SJAC has an independent approach to collecting and accepts donations in the form in which they are offered as long as there is a connection to Jewish history. Through its acquisition efforts and outreach work, SJAC is helping to preserve the materiality of the Scottish Jewish past and curating these historical traces for the present. SJAC collections have been used in family history projects relating to the Scottish Jewish community, such as 200 Years of Scottish Jewry, in collaboration with the Scottish Council of Jewish Communities, Glasgow Jewish Representative Council and the International Institute for Jewish Genealogy.
