On 4 August 2018, a Junkers Ju 52 passenger aircraft operated by Ju-Air crashed near Piz Segnas, Switzerland, while en route from Locarno to Dübendorf. All 20 people on board were killed.
It was the first fatal crash of a Ju-Air aircraft since the company began operations in 1982. The cause of the crash was investigated jointly by the Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board and the cantonal police of Grisons on behalf of the federal and cantonal prosecutors' offices.
The final STSB report on the accident, released on 28 January 2021, indicated that the accident was caused by the two highly experienced pilots flying recklessly, disregarding regulations, failing to anticipate expected turbulence, and failing to control the aircraft to prevent it from stalling and spinning into the ground. The report also found that the aircraft was not airworthy at the time of flight, in that the engines were not producing their minimum rated power, and that the company had a deficient safety culture of rule breaking.

The Tschingelhörner are a chain of mountain peaks in the Glarus Alps, located on the border between the Swiss cantons of Glarus and Grisons. They are composed of several summits on a 1 km long ridge, of which the highest is named Grosses Tschingelhorn. The mountain is located between Elm and Flims, west of the Segnas Pass.
East of the main summit is the Martinsloch, a triangular breakthrough, or hole 6 by 18 metres in diameter, through which the sun shines at particular times of the year.
The mountain is part of the Swiss Tectonic Arena Sardona and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Piz Segnas is a mountain in the Glarus Alps, located on the border between the Swiss cantons of Glarus and Grisons.
The Piz Sardona is on the same ridge to the north, from where the Piz Dolf/Trinserhorn lies to the southeast. The Tschingelhörner with the famous Martinsloch lies to the west, with the Pass dil Segnas between the two mountains.
The mountain lies in the municipalities of Flims, in the canton of Grisons, and Glarus Süd, in the canton of Glarus. The nearest settlements are the villages of Flims, to the south, and Elm, to the west. A path crosses the Pass dil Segnas between the two villages. The easiest access to the area is an aerial cableway to Fil de Cassons from Flims or the hike to this ridge lying southeast of Piz Segnas.

The Glarus thrust is a major thrust fault in the Alps of eastern Switzerland. Along the thrust the Helvetic nappes were thrust more than 100 km to the north over the external Aarmassif and Infrahelvetic complex. The thrust forms the contact between older Permo-Triassic rock layers of the Verrucano group and younger Jurassic and Cretaceous limestones and Paleogene flysch and molasse.
The Glarus thrust crops out over a relatively large area in the cantons Glarus, St. Gallen and Graubünden, due to its horizontal orientation and the high local relief. Famous outcrops include those at Lochsite near Glarus and in a mountain cliff called Tschingelhörner between Elm and Flims.

The Laaxer Stöckli, also known as Piz Grisch, is a 2,898 metres high mountain of the Glarus Alps, located on the border between the cantons of Glarus and Grisons in Eastern Switzerland. It lies approximately halfway between the Vorab and Piz Segnas.
The Laaxer Stöckli belongs to the municipalities of Glarus Süd and Laax. The closest localities are Elm and Flims. The south side is part of the Flims-Laax ski area. A gondola lift from Alp Sogn Martin reaches La Siala at a height of 2,806 metres.
Il s'agit du plus grave accident aérien survenu en Suisse depuis l'accident du vol 3597 Crossair en 2001.
