Marcy-Holmes is a neighborhood in the University community of Minneapolis. The majority of the area is residential and sits upon a bluff overlooking the river and the city skyline. A small section of the neighborhood along the river is an industrial zone. The neighborhood is bordered on the south by the Mississippi River, to the east by the University of Minnesota and 15th Avenue Southeast, to the north by the railroad tracks that separate it from Como Neighborhood, and to the west by Central Avenue.

The Woodbury Fisk House is a historic house in the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood of Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States, built in 1869. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983 for its local significance in the theme of architecture. It was nominated for being the most elaborate example of Italianate architecture—and one of the style's most intact specimens—in the city of Minneapolis.

Horatio P. Van Cleve House

The Horatio P. Van Cleve House is a house in the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood of Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. The house contains elements of the Greek Revival and Italianate styles. It was originally built for William Kimball, a furniture manufacturer; the Van Cleves were the second owners. Horatio P. Van Cleve served as colonel of the 2nd Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Regiment and later a general during the American Civil War. His wife, Charlotte Ouisconsin Clark Van Cleve, was the mother of 12 children, a women's suffrage advocate, and the first woman elected to the Minneapolis School Board. She was also a social reformer who founded an organization to help "erring women" in 1875. The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Pillsbury A-Mill

The Pillsbury A-Mill is a former flour mill located on the east bank of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was the world's largest flour mill for 40 years. Completed in 1881, it was owned by the Pillsbury Company and operated two of the most powerful direct-drive waterwheels ever built, each capable of generating 1,200 horsepower. In 1901 one of the turbines was replaced with a 2,500 horsepower one. Both the mill and its headrace tunnel are contributing resources to the St. Anthony Falls Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The mill is also independently on the NRHP. The mill was named a National Historic Landmark in 1966 and has since been converted into the A-Mill Artist Lofts.

First Congregational Church

The First Congregational Church is a historic church building in the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood of Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States, built in 1886. It is constructed of red sandstone in Gothic-Romanesque style, featuring round-arched windows and semi-circular rows of pews. When initially completed, the building was in a residential neighborhood surrounded by mansions of prominent citizens and merchants of the time, including Octavius Broughton, Woodbury Fisk, Thomas Andrews, Horatio P. Van Cleve, William McNair, and John Dudley. Over time the neighborhood changed to a more transient population, dominated by students attending the University of Minnesota. Architect Warren H. Hayes was Minneapolis' leading designer of churches in the 19th century, having designed the Calvary Baptist Church, Fowler Methodist Episcopal Church, and Wesley Methodist Episcopal Church, as well as the Central Presbyterian Church in Saint Paul. Hubert Humphrey, 38th Vice President of the United States, was a member of this congregation.

Although somewhat confusing to newcomers, the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood is considered part of Southeast Minneapolis, despite its seemingly centralized location within the city today. Almost every street and avenue within the neighborhood is labeled "SE"- South of East Hennepin Avenue and East of the Mississippi River. Most of Marcy-Holmes sits within ward 3 of the Minneapolis City Council, while the portion to the east of I-35W is in ward 2. It straddles state legislative districts 59B and 60B. The neighborhood is named after Marcy Park and Holmes Park (themselves named in honor of William L. Marcy and Oliver Wendell Holmes[1]) which are located within the neighborhood. Marcy-Holmes is well known for its diverse community, its commercial districts, St. Anthony Main and Dinkytown, and its immediate proximity to the East Bank of the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities campus.
