Church of the Transfiguration, Buffalo

The Church of Transfiguration is a Gothic Revival style building in Buffalo, New York, on the corner of Mills and Sycamore Street. It was saved from demolition by a private company in 1994 with promise of renovation, though it still remains mostly untouched. While some efforts to maintain and restore the church have been made, the building remains vacant.

Westminster House Club House

Westminster House Club House is a historic settlement house clubhouse located in the Broadway-Fillmore neighborhood of Buffalo, New York, United States. It was built in 1909–1910, and is a two-story, L-shaped, red brick building with Craftsman style design elements. It features broad overhanging eaves with paired brackets and a raised basement. The building is the last of a complex of buildings operated by Westminster Presbyterian Church that housed social welfare activities that largely benefited the German immigrant community on Buffalo's East Side in the early 20th century. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2018.

Adam Mickiewicz Library and Dramatic Circle

The Adam Mickiewicz Library and Dramatic Circle is a non-profit membership-based organization founded in 1895. It is the oldest Polish American organization in Western New York and is the oldest surviving Polish library in Buffalo. The library holds approximately 12,000 volumes with 400 hand copied plays. The bar serves over 50 different imported beers with a large Polish selection. The "Circle" is home to most of Torn Space Theater's productions and a large annual Dyngus Day party, as well as other cultural events.

Geography

Broadway-Fillmore is in the lower East Side of Buffalo. The neighborhood is centered along Broadway running west–east and Fillmore Avenue running north–south.

History/Culture

Broadway-Fillmore was once home to a large Polish/Eastern European population in Buffalo. The neighborhood has long since fallen into poverty and disrepair in the mid-late 20th century. Today a large African American population along with new immigrants are trying to breathe new life into the neighborhood. Goo Goo Dolls lead singer John Rzeznik grew up here. The neighborhood later became inspiration for the song "Broadway".
