Lake Chabot Regional Park

Lake Chabot Regional Park is a regional park located in the southern Berkeley Hills in Alameda County, California. It was opened to the public on June 18, 1966, as part of the East Bay Regional Parks system. Lake Chabot is a reservoir located in the park. The northern part of the lake and park lie within the boundary of the city of Oakland, while the southern part lies in an unincorporated area of Alameda County adjacent to Castro Valley and San Leandro.

San Leandro Hills

The San Leandro Hills are a component of the East Bay Hills, a low mountain range of the Southern Inner California Coast Ranges System, located on the eastern side of the San Francisco Bay. Geologically, they are a southern continuation of the Berkeley Hills to the north. The East Bay Hills refers geologically to all of the ranges east of the Bay from the Hayward Fault in the west to the Calaveras Fault in the east. The United States Geological Survey Geographic Names Information System, however, includes the San Leandro Hills as part of the Diablo Range in its list of GPS coordinates for the latter. They run along the southeastern city limits of Oakland, extending southeastward above the city of San Leandro and the unincorporated community of Castro Valley. San Leandro Creek drains the canyon along the eastern slope of the hills.

Lake Chabot

Lake Chabot is a man-made lake covering 317 acres in Alameda County, California, United States. Part of the lake lies within Oakland city limits, but most of it lies in unincorporated Castro Valley, just east of San Leandro. It was formed by the damming of San Leandro Creek. The lake was completed in 1875 to serve as a primary source of water for the East Bay. The California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment has developed a safe eating advisory for Lake Chabot based on levels of mercury found in fish caught here.

Anthony Chabot Regional Park is a regional park in Alameda County, California, United States. It is part of the East Bay Regional Park District system, and covers 5,067 acres in the San Leandro Hills adjacent to Oakland, San Leandro and Castro Valley. Popular activities include hiking, cycling and horseback riding. A gun range operated by the Chabot Gun Club was shut down in 2016, following complaints about pollution. The terrain of the park is often steep, consisting of grasslands, chaparral, and eucalyptus groves.

The dam and reservoir's water are part of the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) water system. The 315-acre lake currently serves as emergency water supply to the East Bay, and swimming is never allowed. However, fishing and boating are popular activities at Lake Chabot throughout the year.
