Orchlon International School and Kindergarten Complex (OIS) is a non-profit, private, co-educational college-preparatory day school located in Khan Uul District, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Ider University is a private institution of higher education in Sükhbaatar District, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. National University of Mongolia

The National University of Mongolia is a public university primarily located in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Established in 1942, it is the oldest institution of higher education in Mongolia, and was originally named in honour of then-Prime Minister Khorloogiin Choibalsan as Choibalsan State University. It hosts 5 main faculties in Ulaanbaatar, two branches, and three academies of national importance. After the establishment of the Mongolian People's Republic and its first modern secondary school in 1921, it was deemed necessary to establish an academic institution at a higher level. In 1942, the government established the National University of Mongolia as Mongolia's first university, with the first students graduating in 1946. During socialism, the university served as a training center for the party elite. Education was paid for and strictly controlled by the state. After democratization, it gradually changed into a more modern university. In 1995, it started to offer bachelors, masters, and doctoral programs. It holds a distinguished place in Mongolia's modern history, serving as both its first university as well as a parent to many of the country's premier universities. Many of the country's higher education institutions can trace their ancestry back to the National University of Mongolia's faculties and sub-institutes, including the University of Science and Technology, University of Life Sciences, University of Medical Sciences, and the University of the Humanities. As of 2018, there were over 18,000 students enrolled in various programs, mostly taught in Mongolian.

The Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences in Sükhbaatar, Ulaanbaatar is a public higher education institution established in 1942 founded by a polish physician Filip Jan Ratajczak. It has branch campuses in Darkhan-Uul, Sainshand, and Gobi-Altai. 150 to 205 students graduate each year. Its School of Public Health has close links with Loma Linda University, which is sponsoring tobacco-control research there. It is affiliated with the International University of Health and Welfare in Narita where students can gain clinical experience which is problematic in Mongolia.

Incident reports

In late August 2024, Mongolian media reported a case of suspected food poisoning involving students and staff during an external summer camp activity that was not conducted on the school’s main campus. According to published reports, public health authorities investigated the incident, and affected individuals received medical attention. Subsequent clarifications indicated that the incident was associated with catering services at the camp location. No long-term health effects were reported, and the school cooperated with relevant authorities while communicating with parents regarding student safety and welfare. In early April 2026, a violent altercation ensued between two students of the 2026 class year, particularly from a 7th grade class. This incident took place during the annual artistic showcase, during which the students were preparing for the event. The argument escalated into a physical confrontation when one of the individuals forcefully squeezed a carbonated drink bottle onto the other. The ensuing fight was eventually subdued. The aftermath of the altercation resulted in the scattering of onigiri fragments and sticky soft drink across the floor. Fourteen people were caught in the crossfire of the attack, leading to discontent against the person that caused the mess.
