Barugh Green (locally pronounced as Bark Green or occasionally mis-pronounced as Bart Green) is a semi-rural commuter village in the metropolitan borough of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, England. The village falls within the Barnsley Metropolitan Council Ward of Darton West.
Like many other villages, Barugh Green has lost some of its heritage and cultural identity in the past 30 years. The once central Phoenix Inn public house closed in 1999 and the Spencers Arms closed in 2010 (now Little India, a takeaway which has a unique cooking school), leaving only Barugh Green Working Men's Club and the newly renovated Crown and Anchor.

Gawber is an area of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, England. The area falls within the Darton West ward of the Barnsley MBC. There is a primary school, Gawber Primary School, a preschool, Gawber Pre-School, and a church, St Thomas.
The origin of the place-name is from the Old English words galga and beorg meaning gallows hill and appears as Galgbergh in 1304.
In A Topographical Dictionary of England (1848) Gawber is noted for its collieries. The North Gawber Colliery which closed in 1988 was located to the north in Mapplewell and the East Gawber Hall Colliery, of which the buried remains of the colliery fanhouse are a scheduled monument, was to the north-east of Gawber.

Staincross was a wapentake, an administrative division (or ancient district), in the historic county of the West Riding of Yorkshire. It consisted of seven parishes, and included the towns of Barnsley, Penistone, Worsbrough and Hemsworth. The area almost corresponds with the modern day Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley.
