Appleby East railway station

Appleby East is a closed railway station that was a stop on the Eden Valley Railway in Appleby-in-Westmorland, Cumberland (now in Cumbria), England; it was located between Kirkby Stephen East and Penrith. The station was formerly one of two that served the town, the other being Appleby West on the Midland Railway's Settle to Carlisle line; the latter station is still open, albeit now simply called Appleby.

Appleby is a railway station on the Settle and Carlisle Line, which runs between Carlisle and Leeds via Settle. The station, situated 30 miles 60 chains (49.5 km) south-east of Carlisle, serves the market town of Appleby-in-Westmorland in Cumbria, England. It is owned by Network Rail and managed by Northern Trains. The station was formerly known as Appleby West, with the older Appleby East station located nearby on the Eden Valley Railway. The buildings of Appleby East still survive.

Appleby Friary

Appleby Friary was a friary at Appleby-in-Westmorland, in Cumbria, England. It was a Carmelite friary founded c. 1290 and dissolved in 1539. Its patrons included Lord Clifford of Appleby and Lord Vesey. A Grade II listed 19th-century house in Appleby bears the name The Friary. The location of the friary itself remains uncertain.

Appleby-in-Westmorland is a market town and civil parish in Westmorland and Furness, Cumbria, England, with a population of 3,048 at the 2011 Census. Crossed by the River Eden, Appleby is the county town of the historic county of Westmorland. It was known just as Appleby until 1974–1976, when the council of the successor parish to the borough changed it to retain the name Westmorland, which was abolished as an administrative area under the Local Government Act 1972, before being revived as Westmorland and Furness in 2023. It lies 14 miles (23 km) south-east of Penrith, 32 miles (51 km) south-east of Carlisle, 27 miles (43 km) north-east of Kendal and 45 miles (72 km) west of Darlington.
