La Jolla Village Square is a retail power center with a collection of mostly big box retailers. Before 1992, was an enclosed upscale regional mall with department store anchors and an adjacent "convenience center" portion. It is located in the La Jolla Village neighborhood of San Diego just south of UC San Diego and about one mile west of Westfield UTC, with which it used to compete as an upscale regional mall. It is across the street from "The Shops at La Jolla Village", whose tenants include Whole Foods Market, Nordstrom Rack, and CVS Pharmacy.

The San Diego California Temple is the 47th constructed and 45th operating temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located in San Diego, California. It is the third in California, following the Los Angeles and Oakland temples.
Plans to construct the temple were announced by Gordon B. Hinckley on April 7, 1984, during general conference.
After construction was completed, a public open house was held from February 20 to April 3, 1993. In 1993, the temple was named "Headliner of the Year" in the landmark category by the San Diego Press Club, and publicity surrounding the open house received a Silver Anvil Award from the Public Relations Society of America. It was dedicated, with 23 sessions held from April 25 to April 30, 1993, by Gordon B. Hinckley.
Located near the La Jolla community of San Diego, the temple has two main spires, with four smaller ones at the base of each tower. The eastern spire has a statue of the angel Moroni on its top.

The J. Craig Venter Institute is a non-profit genomics research institute founded by J. Craig Venter, Ph.D. in October 2006. The institute was the result of consolidating four organizations: the Center for the Advancement of Genomics, The Institute for Genomic Research, the Institute for Biological Energy Alternatives, and the J. Craig Venter Science Foundation Joint Technology Center. It has facilities in Rockville, Maryland, and San Diego, California.
The institute studies the societal implications of genomics in addition to genomics itself. The institute's research involves genomic medicine; environmental genomic analysis; clean energy; synthetic biology; and ethics, law, and economics. The institute employs over 200 people, including Nobel laureate Hamilton Smith. It was sold to the University of California, San Diego, in 2022.
