Peak Galleria (Chinese: 山頂廣場; Jyutping: saan1 deng2 gwong2 coeng4) is a leisure and shopping complex and a tourist attraction located at Victoria Gap, near the summit of Victoria Peak on Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. It is owned and run by Hang Lung Properties. It includes a bus terminus for public buses run by New World First Bus and a green minibus route that serves the Peak.

Hong Kong Trams Station

Hong Kong Trams Station is a tram cafe and gift shop in Siu Sai Wan. It was formerly located at the Peak Galleria on Hong Kong Island. The cafe, run by Tramric Limited, opened on 27 October 2013 to celebrate the 110th anniversary of Hong Kong Tramways. The museum claimed to be the city's first tram-themed exhibition gallery, which explored the history of the tram system and its vehicles. Historical tram items on display included a 1970s money collector, tram tickets, and iron-made tram models. A reconstructed 1950s tram scene with a wooden tram seat was also present. Lectures, model-making workshops, tram tours, and exhibition gallery talks were also offered by the museum. In May 2018, the Peak Galleria owner Hang Lung Properties informed the museum that the contract at their location would be terminated on 1 September 2018, and that rent would increase threefold. As a result, the museum closed on 26 August 2018. New branches have since been launched in Siu Sai Wan and Central Market.

The Peak Hotel

The Peak Hotel was a hotel located at Victoria Gap, at upper terminus of the Peak Tram, near the summit of Victoria Peak on Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. It started as a bar and restaurant, and a hotel with twenty bedrooms for summer visitors opening about the same time as the Peak Tram, in 1888. About 13 years earlier, in 1875, N.J. Ede had built a house named Dunheved on the property. In 1881, Alexander Findlay Smith, a Scottish former railway man, had petitioned for the right to introduce a funicular railway to Hong Kong. The Peak Tram was built and began operations in 1888. About the same time, Findlay Smith bought Dunheved from Ede, and reopened it as the Peak Hotel; Ede and his family moved next door. After the Peak Tram opened, Findlay Smith quickly put the Peak Hotel on the market. It was sold and completely rebuilt into an imposing three-story building, reopening in 1890. It boasted of commodious and well-appointed accommodation, and the hotel was deservedly popular. Later, another story was added to make it four stories, and then a two-story annex with views down to Pok Fu Lam was built. A further addition doubled the size of the annex and added a third story. The hotel commanded views of the city and Victoria Harbour in one direction, and of Pok Fu Lam facing Lamma Island in the other. In 1922, the hotel was bought by the owners of the rival Hongkong Hotel for HK$600,000. The hotel's poor construction led to further deterioration. It closed in 1936, and in 1938 its fate was finally sealed by a fire. Today, the Peak Hotel's former site is occupied by The Peak Galleria complex.

Victoria Gap

Victoria Gap is an area and a mountain pass located between the summits of Victoria Peak and Mount Gough, on Hong Kong Island, in Hong Kong. It is the most touristic place within the area referred to as The Peak, which receives some seven million visitors every year. Its altitude is 396 metres - some 150 metres below the summit of The Peak.

Mount Austin Barracks was a British Army base in Hong Kong during British rule. It was acquired in 1897 and developed from the former Mount Austin Hotel. It is named after John Gardiner Austin, former Hong Kong Colonial Secretary. It was located near the Peak Tram terminus at Victoria Peak. The base consisted of a series of multi-storey buildings on a hill. Damaged during World War II, it was later demolished. The complex is adjacent to the Peak Tower, another leisure and shopping complex, which houses the upper terminus of the Peak Tram. The shopping complex houses several eateries. It also has a free-entry observatory deck on level 3, larger than the Peak Tower one.

History

The Galleria complex, located on the former site of The Peak Hotel, has been open since 1993. From 2013 until its closure in 2018, Hong Kong Trams Station, a museum and gift shop focused on the history of Hong Kong Tramways, was located in the complex. In 2016, Hang Lung Properties began renovations and the restaurant Café Deco, which had been located in the mall for 22 years, was closed. In 2019, Hang Lung Properties renovated the entrance of the mall.
