Pakowhai is a small settlement in the Hastings District and Hawke's Bay Region of New Zealand's North Island. It is a located between Napier and Hastings, north of the Ngaruroro River. Mission Estate Winery established its first vineyard in Hawke's Bay at Pakowhai in 1851. The Pakowhai Regional Park is located on the river's south bank.

The Napier-Hastings Urban Area was defined by Statistics New Zealand as a main urban area of New Zealand that was based around the twin cities of Napier and Hastings in the Hawke's Bay Region. It was defined under the New Zealand Standard Areas Classification 1992, which has since been superseded by the Statistical Standard for Geographic Areas 2018.
The urban area lay mostly on the Heretaunga Plains, with part on surrounding hills. It was a city cluster consisting of the cities of Napier and Hastings, the town of Havelock North and some smaller settlements. It was the sixth-most-populous urban area in the country under the NZSAC92, with 134,500 residents, fewer than Tauranga and more than Dunedin.
While the two cities are separated by 9 km of rural land from city edge to edge, there is sufficient economic and social integration between the cities that Stats NZ treated them as a single urban area. The daily traffic flows across all bridges crossing the Tutaekuri River between Napier and Hastings was 54,500 VPD prior to the 2023 Cyclone Gabrielle. Stats NZ also subdivided the urban area into urban zones, as they did for the urban areas of Auckland, Hamilton and Wellington. The Napier-Hastings Urban Area contains about three-quarters of the population of the entire Hawke's Bay.
Under SSGA18, Stats NZ split up the Napier-Hastings Urban Area for statistical purposes. It was split into two "large urban areas" of Napier and Hastings, the "medium urban area" of Havelock North, the "small urban area" of Clive, and the "rural settlements" of Haumoana, Te Awanga, Whakatu and Whirinaki. Some settlements of less than 300 that were included in the Napier-Hastings Urban Area were left out entirely, including Eskdale, Omahu, Pakipaki, Pakowhai and Waiohiki. Stats NZ similarly split Wellington into Lower Hutt, Porirua, Upper Hutt and the urban part of Wellington City under SSGA18.

The Heretaunga Plains is a 300 square kilometres alluvial plain at the southern end of Hawke Bay on the east coast of the North Island of New Zealand. The towns of Napier, Hastings and Havelock North are on the plain.
The plain was formed over the last 250,000 years from sediment deposited by the Tutaekuri, Ngaruroro and Tukituki Rivers and from coastal marine deposits. It consists of layers of gravel, sand and silt. Permeable gravel beds form aquifers and the artesian groundwater provides 85% of the requirements for public water supply, irrigation and industrial use on the Heretaunga Plains and adjacent areas.
The fertile soil, the warm, dry climate of the area, and the water for irrigation make the plain an excellent site for horticulture and agriculture. Half of the total New Zealand production of fruit, vegetables and grapes is on the Heretaunga Plains. It is one of New Zealand's leading wine producing areas.
The Heretaunga Plains are named after a carved wharenui at Whatonga, and Māori migrating south have taken the name with them and given it to a watercourse now known as the Hutt River.

Whakatu is a rural community in the Hastings District and Hawke's Bay Region of New Zealand's North Island. It is located 8 kilometres north-east of the centre of Hastings. A large industrial area is enclosed by a bend in the Clive River, and the closure of the freezing works in Whakatu in 1986 cost the region 2000 full-time and seasonal jobs. State Highway 2 and the Palmerston North–Gisborne Line pass through Whakatu.
Richard Tucker was a notable resident of Whakatu; he owned the largest wool-scouring plant in the Hawke's Bay Region.

Farndon Park, also known as Farndon Park Domain, is a public park in Clive, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. It hosts many sporting events, including swimming, tennis, rugby union, and rowing on the adjacent Clive River. It was formerly also a cricket ground.

Clive is a small town, ten kilometres from the city centres of both Napier and Hastings in the Hawke's Bay region of New Zealand's North Island. It is close to the mouth of Te Awa o Mokotūāraro, which was previously known as the Clive River.
The town is part of the Hastings district. It was named after a prominent person from imperial India, in this case Robert Clive, better known as "Clive of India". The name was given by John Curling.
The town of Clive is mainly rural, yet with the increasing number of people moving into Hawke's Bay, and Clive being at the meeting point of Hastings and Napier, new subdivisions are being built to accommodate the growing population.
Clive is home to the Hawke's Bay Rowing Club who train on the Clive River. The Hawke's Bay Rowing Regatta is held on the first weekend of the year and was started in 1872.
It is a country park, with dog-walking areas and agility features. It hosts community planting days, and attracts kākā from inland mountains. A new petrol station was controversially proposed for the area in 2019. Pakowhai was inundated by flooding during Cyclone Gabrielle in 2023 after the Ngaruroro River burst its banks. Dozen of houses were destroyed.
