Dakin Building

The Dakin Building is an architectural award-winning class A office building on the San Francisco Bay in Brisbane, California. Serving as a corporate headquarters building for several companies of national prominence, it was built from the profits of the Garfield character whose licensed products of the R. Dakin & Company division of Applause Toys soared in sales in the late 1980s. Oyster Point Marina/Park

Oyster Point Marina/Park is a 408-berth public marina and 33-acre park located in the city of South San Francisco, California on the western shoreline of San Francisco Bay. The City of South San Francisco owns Oyster Point Marina/Park. The San Mateo County Harbor District has operated Oyster Point Marina/Park under a Joint Powers Agreement with the City since 1977. The JPA terminates in 2026. The marina is located close to nearby job centers in various office complexes and high rises in downtown of this city known as a regional biotech center. It includes a fuel dock, boat launching ramp, and fishing pier. In addition to boating and parkland, there are hiking and jogging trails, picnic areas, and 2.5 acres of sandy beaches.

South San Francisco Ferry Terminal

The South San Francisco Ferry Terminal is the only operating ferry terminal in San Mateo County, California. Boats are operated there by the San Francisco Bay Ferry company, and connect the city of South San Francisco to the Oakland Ferry Terminal in Jack London Square as well as Alameda, California. Construction began in 2009 and the ferry service started on June 4, 2012. While a ferry service between San Francisco and ports to the south existed as far south as San Jose and Alviso during the 1800s, most passengers to Peninsula destinations took the San Francisco and San Jose Railroad after it was completed in 1864 as part of the transcontinental railway.

History

The company was founded in 1995 in Richmond, California. It was originally known as Sangamo Biosciences, Inc. before changing names in 2017. In September 2018, it had 182 employees. Sandy Macrae is the president. In 2018, Edward Rebar became the senior vice president and chief technology officer of Sangamo. Sangamo Therapeutics' Sangamo name and, for a brief time, its logo, were taken from the earlier Sangamo Electric Company, founded as an offshoot of the Illinois Watch Company in January 1899, the name coming from the nearby Sangamon River. The modern Sangamo's founder, Edward Oliver Lanphier II, is the great-grandson of one of Sangamo Electric's founders, Robert Carr Lanphier Sr.

Research

Sangamo's clinical development programs have emerged from proprietary zinc finger and serine integrase gene editing technologies that the company has developed, coupled with its proprietary adeno-associated virus (AAV)-based delivery platform. The company's clinical pipeline includes investigational treatments for haemophilia A; lysosomal storage diseases including Fabry disease, mucopolysaccharidosis type I (Hurler Syndrome), and mucopolysaccharidosis type II (Hunter Syndrome); and neurological disorders including small fiber neuropathy (SFN) and prion disease. The FDA granted Sangamo fast track designation for SB-525, a gene therapy candidate for haemophilia A. In its partnership with Pfizer in 2017, Sangamo uses Bioverativ in hemoglobinopathies such as beta thalassemia and sickle cell disease. In February 2019, medical scientists, working with Sangamo Therapeutics, announced the first ever "in body" human gene editing therapy to permanently alter DNA - in a patient with Hunter syndrome. As of February 2019 clinical trials by Sangamo involving gene editing using zinc finger nuclease were ongoing.
