Museum Collectie Brands is a museum in Nieuw-Dordrecht, Drenthe. The museum contains a collection of over seventy thousand objects and books that were collected by Jans Brands during his lifetime. The ‘crown jewel’ of the museum is a complete medieval register from 1382, which contains a summary of all the feudal lords and their holdings that had sworn fealty to the then bishop of Utrecht, Floris van Wevelinkhoven.

The King Willem-Alexander Canal, named after King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, is a 6 km long canal in the northeastern Netherlands. The new canal through the Hondsrug is part of the larger Veenvaart project to draw more recreational boaters and tourists to the Veenkoloniën region in the provinces of Drenthe and Groningen.
The canal was originally to be called the Veenkanaal but was renamed on 8 June 2013 in honor of recently enthroned King Willem-Alexander.

Oranjedorp started to develop when the Oranjekanaal was completed in 1858, and peat exploitation started in the area. In 1867, it was first mentioned as Oranjedorp. Even though the postal authorities have placed it under Nieuw-Dordrecht. it is considered a village. In 1932, it was home to 932 people. No church was built in Oranjedorp.
In 1988, a gas desulfurization plant of the Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij opened in Oranjedorp, and industry started to move to the village.

De Oude Meerdijk, previously known as Stadion Meerdijk, Univé Stadion, and JENS Vesting, is a multi-purpose stadium located at Business Park Meerdijk. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of FC Emmen. The stadium is able to hold 8,600 people and was built in 1977. It was completely renovated in 2001.
Between 2001 and 2013 the stadium carried the sponsored name Univé Stadion for twelve seasons. From 2014 to 2017 it was known as the JENS Vesting due to another sponsorship deal.
