Bataille de Pinkie Cleugh

La bataille de Pinkie Cleugh se déroula le 10 septembre 1547 sur les rives de la rivière Esk (en), à proximité de Musselburgh, en Écosse, et fait partie de la guerre dite du rough wooing. Il s'agit de la dernière bataille entre les armées royales écossaise et anglaise, et de la première bataille « moderne » à se dérouler dans les Îles Britanniques, faisant preuve d'une coopération active entre les forces d'infanterie, d'artillerie, et de cavalerie. Ce fut une défaite catastrophique pour les Écossais en raison de l'utilisation par les Anglais de l'artillerie navale, pour la première fois dans une bataille terrestre en Grande-Bretagne. En Écosse, cet épisode est connu sous le nom de Black Saturday (« samedi noir »).

The Battle of Pinkie, also known as the Battle of Pinkie Cleugh (), took place on 10 September 1547 on the banks of the River Esk near Musselburgh, Scotland. The last pitched battle between Scotland and England before the Union of the Crowns, it was part of the conflict known as the Rough Wooing. It was a catastrophic defeat for Scotland, where it became known as "Black Saturday". A highly detailed and illustrated English account of the battle and campaign authored by an eyewitness William Patten was published in London as propaganda four months after the battle.
