Brookfield Village is an Oakland, California neighborhood located in East Oakland near Oakland International Airport. The main streets are 98th Avenue and Edes Avenue. Brookfield Village was built during World War II in response to the influx of workers needed for the war industries, on land which had been zoned for industrial uses.

Pet Food Express is a California chain of retail stores that offers pet food, with a focus on premium brands, holistic, and organic pet food, as well as other pet supplies, and self-service dog washing facilities.
Pet Food Express CEO and co-owner Michael Levy started a dog training business in 1976 and opened his first San Francisco location in 1980, selling some food and supplies. In 1986, he left dog training to focus on retail and had expanded to three locations by the time his business partner, Mark Witriol, came aboard in 1992. They have since expanded, and have 54 locations in Northern California, with 9 more in Southern California.
Pet Food Express partners with more than 250 non-profit animal rescue and shelter organizations, and regularly donate more than $1 million a year to those organizations. The company set up cat adoption centers in its stores starting in 2011 and claims that approximately 1,000 cats have been adopted through its California stores since the program's inception. Pet Food Express has a high standard of quality for its food and products.
In June 2022 the company sold to Rainier Partners, a private equity firm, to help grow the business further.

Sobrante Park is a neighborhood located in East Oakland, California, which is partially separated from the rest of the city by two railroad tracks and San Leandro Creek. It was built shortly after World War II, first as a White-Only Lockout and then gradually becoming a White flight red-zone in the mid to late 1950s, and in the early 1960s it became a working-class black neighborhood. It was projected by planners that there would be no in-road into San Leandro's Davis St. residential area which was developed during the same period.
In the 1980s the neighborhood became a center of crack cocaine dealing. A large gang from the neighborhood gave itself the nickname, "11-5" which refers to the section of California State's legal code for drug crimes. A memorial to 32 men and six women members of the gang who have been killed since then was painted on the basketball court in Tyrone Carney Park, a local park named after a young man from the neighborhood who died in the Vietnam War. The city installed a fence around the park in an attempt to reduce the murders and drug dealing that had been taking place in and around the park.
Sobrante Park is a mostly African-American and Latino neighborhood, with African-Americans forming 53.5%, and Latinos forming about 38%[1].
Sobrante Park and the informally named "Ghost Town" have been two of the most crime-ridden areas on Oakland.
Recently, the Alameda County Department of Health, local organizations, and community members established a Time Bank project for the neighborhood in order to facilitate skill sharing among residents, rebuild trust, and revitalize the community of Sobrante Park.

The Doolittle Maintenance and Storage Facility is the operations management center for the BART Oakland Airport Connector. The building is used for storage and maintenance of the Cable Liner cars, and is also the powerhouse for the system's 12-foot drive wheels.
In the initial plans for the Oakland Airport Connector, the Doolittle Drive facility was planned to also serve as a passenger station. The station was not built, but the facility's design allows for it to be built in the future. Vehicles stop at the structure in both directions to switch cable loops, but do not allow passengers to disembark.

On April 2, 2012, a mass shooting occurred inside Oikos University, a Korean Christian college in Oakland, California, United States. Seven people were killed, and three others were injured. One L. Goh, a former student at the school, was taken into custody and identified as the suspect in the shooting. It is the deadliest mass killing in the city's history.

It was one of the first suburban style tract house developments in Oakland. Brookfield Village was developed by Albert Bernhardt and the Stoneon Brothers; a subdivision of over 1200 homes that featured winding, contoured streets lined with shade trees. Its creators advertised it as "a model village on the Pacific Coast." Damian Lillard, who is a professional National Basketball Association (NBA) player for the Portland Trail Blazers, grew up in Brookfield Village.
