Northumberland Street

Northumberland Street is a major shopping street in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne, in the North East of England. It is home to a wide range of different retailers, banks and cafes. As of 2004, Northumberland Street was the most expensive location in the UK outside London to own a shop, in terms of rental per square foot. However, by 2016, it had been overtaken by Manchester's Market Square, Leeds' Commercial Road, Edinburgh's Princes Street, and Glasgow's Buchanan Street. There are currently over 51 retailers including pubs on Newcastle's Northumberland Street.

Fenwick (department store)

Fenwick, Limited () is a British chain of department stores in the United Kingdom. It was founded in 1882 by John James Fenwick in Newcastle upon Tyne, and has eight branches and an online store. It was a member of the International Association of Department Stores from 1988 to 2010. As of 2022, the chain is still owned by members of the Fenwick family. The company was chaired by Mark Fenwick until 2017 with Simon Calver appointed as chair in 2021. John Edgar was appointed as CEO of Fenwick in April 2020. In 2012, the Newcastle Chronicle reported that the company was valued at £452 million.

Bainbridge's

Bainbridge's (company name Bainbridge & Co) was a major department store in Eldon Square in the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne, England. The store, which is now branded as John Lewis Newcastle, moved to its current site in 1976, but the company dates back to 1838. It claimed to be the first true department store in the world, having begun recording weekly turnover separately by department in 1849. In 2002, after a vote by store employees, the owner John Lewis changed the official name to John Lewis Newcastle.
