Col de Hardknott

Le col de Hardknott (en anglais : Hardknott Pass) est un col de la région montagneuse du Lake District au Royaume-Uni. Il est traversé par une route qui relie Eskdale (l'ouest de la Cumbria) et la vallée du Duddon (en) (centre de Lake District). Avec une pente maximale d'environ 33 %, cette route goudronnée partage le titre de route la plus raide d'Angleterre avec la Rosedale Chimney Bank (en) dans le Yorkshire du Nord. Le fort romain de Hardknott (Mediobogdum) est situé à proximité.

Hardknott Pass

Hardknott Pass is a hill pass between Eskdale and the Duddon Valley in the Lake District National Park, Cumbria, England. The tarmac-surfaced road, which is the most direct route from the central Lake District to West Cumbria, shares the title of steepest road in England with Rosedale Chimney Bank in North Yorkshire. It has a maximum gradient of 1 in 3 (about 33%). The pass takes its name from the nearby Hard Knott fell, whose name is derived from the Old Norse harthr (hard) and knutr (craggy hill).

Hard Knott

Hard Knott is a fell in the English Lake District, at the head of Eskdale. The northern and western slopes of Hard Knott are in the civil parish of Eskdale, while the southern and eastern slopes are in the civil parish of Ulpha. Both are in the unitary authority area of Cumberland and the ceremonial county of Cumbria.

Hardknott Roman Fort

Hardknott Roman Fort is an archeological site, the remains of the Roman fort Mediobogdum, located on the western side of the challenging Hardknott Pass in the English Lake District. The fort was built between 120 and 138 on a rocky spur, and was initially garrisoned by a detachment of the Cohors IV Delmatarum from the Dalmatian coast (in modern Croatia). It was abandoned around a decade later, then reoccupied circa 200 and remained in use for much of the next two centuries. The fort is on land owned by the National Trust, part of the Trust's Wasdale, Eskdale and Duddon property, and is maintained by English Heritage. It is in the civil parish of Eskdale, the unitary authority area of Cumberland, and the ceremonial county of Cumbria.

Cockley Beck

Cockley Beck is a small hamlet, situated in the Duddon Valley in Cumbria, England. Historically, the hamlet was part of Lancashire. Located today within the Lake District National Park, it was established in the late 16th century, and is closely associated with the mining of copper ore in Cumbria.

Harter Fell (Eskdale)

Harter Fell is a fell in the western part of the English Lake District, located between the Eskdale and Duddon valleys. Its height is 653 metres (2,142 ft) There are several walking routes to the summit.
