Rivington Park School

Rivington Park Independent School was a private school located in Rivington, Lancashire that closed in 2014. It was founded in 2004 by Michael Ruaux, whose daughter, Emily, is a nationally ranked fencer. Ruaux also founded Rivington Park Fencing Club, which continues to operate. The school provided day-school education for children aged five to sixteen. The school had nearly closed in 2009 but was rescued by injection of funds from parents. The school also offered GCSE and BTEC courses for senior pupils and had plans to provide A-Level courses for sixth form pupils as well as boarding provision in what had been the school's nursery. The nursery closed down following an adverse Ofsted report published on 3 January 14 prompted by "concern raised with Ofsted regarding child ratios, supervision and the effectiveness of the key person system". The rest of the school closed without warning to staff or parents on 12 December 2014 at which time it had about 35 pupils on roll.

Rivington and Blackrod High School in the North West region of England is a Leverhulme Trust multi-academy comprehensive school. Alongside Harper Green School, it operates as a Church of England teaching environment with a sixth form school. The school is located at two sites, with the upper school situated on Rivington Lane in Rivington, Lancashire (SD637127), and the lower school situated on Albert Street in Horwich, Greater Manchester (SD638118).

Terraced Gardens, Rivington

Terraced Gardens of Rivington (Leverhulmes Former Gardens) is a landscaped woodland on the hillside of Rivington Pike, in Rivington Parish in the Chorley Borough of Lancashire, England, originally designed as a Garden by T.H. Mawson and built as curtilage to a home of the soap magnate Viscount Leverhulme; as such, the area is not part of Lever Park. It has a Green Flag Award. The gardens contains and abuts the SSSI of the West Pennine Moors. Today the former gardens are Grade II listed and contain eleven Grade II structures. The original design had three elements — the upper part being in the romanesque architectural style, the lower section, known as the Ravine, was a woodland with a man-made stream, and a Japanese-style garden, with a man-made pond constructed of Pulmonite which remains today. The gardens are leased to Rivington Heritage Trust by United Utilities and are undergoing restoration and preservation.

Lower Rivington Reservoir

Lower Rivington Reservoir is at the end of the Rivington chain of reservoirs in Lancashire, England, with Upper Rivington Reservoir to the north, and Rivington Water Treatment Works to the south. The Rivington chain primarily supplies 70,000 households in the Wigan area. The chain was built to supply Liverpool. The engineer for the Rivington reservoirs was Thomas Hawksley and construction for the Liverpool Corporation Waterworks took place between 1852 and 1857. The Lower Rivington reservoir has two dams - the Millstone Embankment, which is 2,120 feet (646 m) long and 40-foot (12.2 m) high, and the Horwich Embankment, which is 1,660 feet (506 m) long and 61-foot (18.6 m) high. Filter beds were constructed at the foot of the Horwich Embankment, The original sand filters were replaced by a new treatment plant from where a pipeline runs to the service reservoirs at Eccleston, St Helens. The River Douglas was diverted through a paved channel in a deep cutting into Lower Rivington. On the Rivington bank of the reservoir is a folly which is a replica of Liverpool Castle, and to the south-west is the Headless Cross at Grimeford Village. There is an activity centre offering watersports and land-based activities on the Anderton bank of the reservoir.

Rivington Pike

Rivington Pike is a hill on Winter Hill, part of the West Pennine Moors at Rivington, Chorley in Lancashire, England. The nearest towns are Adlington and Horwich. The land and building are owned and managed by Chorley Council. The Pike Tower is a prominent local landmark located below the summit, it is part of Lever Park. The area is popular with hill walkers and for mountain biking.
