Hall Cross Academy

Hall Cross Academy (formerly Hall Cross School and Doncaster Grammar School), is a co-educational academy in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England. The 2012–2013 term saw the establishment change its name to Hall Cross Academy. It is named after the Hall Cross on Hall Cross Hill, on the opposite side of the main road through Doncaster.

Christ Church, Doncaster

Christ Church is a historic building in Doncaster, in South Yorkshire in England. The church was designed in 1827 by William Hurst, and was completed in 1829. It originally had a stone spire, but it was hit by lightning in 1836, and was badly damaged. In the 1850s, George Gilbert Scott enlarged the chancel, and between 1863 and 1865, several stained glass windows designed by Jean Baptiste Cappronier were installed. A new, copper covered, spire was added in 1939, and the church was Grade II* listed in 1950. The church closed in 1989, when repair costs were considered prohibitive. It was purchased by the Reachout Christian Fellowship in 1994, and reopened as a church in 2004. The church is in the Gothick style. It is built of Roche Abbey limestone, with a slate roof. The tower is at the south, and has four stages, with single storey entrance bays either side. The two lower stages are square in plan, while the upper two are octagonal, and supported by buttresses. The nave is six bays long, and the chancel is at the north end, narrower, and two bays long, with a small vestry on its west side. Inside, the pulpit and pews are original, while the other fittings are 20th century.

Doncaster Rural District

Doncaster was a rural district in the West Riding of Yorkshire, England from 1894 to 1974. The rural district was created by the Local Government Act 1894 as successor to the Doncaster Rural Sanitary District. It consisted of an area surrounding, but not including, the town of Doncaster. Doncaster itself formed a separate municipal borough (from 1927 a county borough). The district underwent a number of boundary changes over its existence due to the expansion of Doncaster and the growth of a number of other towns. Doncaster Rural District Council were granted armorial bearings on 30 October 1947.

City of Doncaster

The City of Doncaster is a metropolitan borough with city status in South Yorkshire, England. It is named after its principal settlement, Doncaster, and includes the surrounding suburbs of Doncaster as well as numerous towns and villages. The district has large amounts of countryside; at 219 square miles (570 km2), it is the largest metropolitan borough in England by area. The largest settlements in the borough are Doncaster itself, followed by the towns of Thorne, Hatfield and Mexborough (the latter of which is part of the Barnsley/Dearne Valley built-up area), and it additionally covers the towns of Conisbrough, Stainforth, Bawtry, Askern, Edlington and Tickhill. Doncaster borders North Yorkshire to the north, the East Riding of Yorkshire to the north-east, North Lincolnshire to the east, Bassetlaw in Nottinghamshire to the south-east, Rotherham to the south-west, Barnsley to the west, and Wakefield, West Yorkshire, to the north-west. It is part of the Yorkshire and the Humber region. The borough was created on 1 April 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, as a merger of the former County Borough of Doncaster, the urban districts of Adwick-le-Street, Bentley with Arksey, Conisbrough, Mexborough, and Tickhill, Doncaster and Thorne rural districts, and the parish of Finningley from East Retford Rural District and small parts of the parish of Harworth from Worksop Rural District from Nottinghamshire.
